“Take care of yourself. Sleep. Eat. Exercise. Rest. Relax. Take care of other people, as best you can. People are important. Software is just fun.” — Lars Wirzenius
Failure stories are not necessarily disappointing (in the long run) - 4-5 years ago I have tried to become Go developer. Initially did some learning myself and started applying. While my attempts to score :golang: job failed, some companies not only challenged me with intricate tasks, but also provided with useful tips where to improve and how to learn more.
One of examples - on-site task at Uber to create a minefield command line application with some logic from classic Minesweeper game. Allocated time was far too little to develop something working under interview stress, but later I managed to put together an application at home, at my own pace. I think I'm gonna document it properly and publish as tiny open source project, because I've learned some useful ideas in the process. Needless to say, I wasn't hired.
Now it's nothing major really, but later I managed to contribute a few bits to lightweight blogging platform @writefreely and make tiny improvements to :aws_logo: Lambda Function example.
Currently I am putting together little working API server application with :postgresql: connection pooler and external OAuth provider support to show how basic API tooling works together - will post it as #opensource project later this year 🤓️
Never give up doing what you are interested into! Even if you get "not good enough" somewhere or everywhere, do it as a hobby, improve and enjoy!
Habe heute das erste mal so richtig #ChatGTP als Hilfe für ein Programmierproblem verwendet. Noch bin ich schlauer, es hat mir zwar Quatsch vorgeschlagen, aber das hat mich auf die richtige Idee gebracht. Spannend.
An hour and a half to add two lines of code - sounds bad, doesn't it?
Finding the right place to put two lines of code, that will fix the problem your users are having, without causing new problems to arise, into a legacy code base that you're marginally familiar with, and then documenting that for future developers - that's what really takes those 90 minutes.
Hey! 👋 I just migrated from another instance and thought I'd do another introduction.
I'm Judi, a software engineer based in Berlin, and I build stuff on the Internet. 👩💻
I recently decided to dip my toe into the world of self-employment. No idea how that will go but I plan to document every step of the way, so stay tuned if you want to join me on my solopreneur journey. ⛵
Disappointed! 😞 My Lenovo ThinkPad, after just 2.5 years, suddenly refuses to charge. Tried different chargers, but no response. Is there any solution? It's frustrating when a laptop breaks so soon! #Lenovo#ThinkPad#Disappointed#DeveloperLife
