Interconnected short stories - "disconcerting" is a surprisingly good word to describe them: Atmospheric, (murderous,) creating images in your head you cannot easily get rid off. At the same time nicely readable and with that translucent quality that quiet some of Japanese literature I've read (think Banana Yoshimoto) seems to have.

"Silver Nitrate" by Silvia Moreno Garcia (2023), Horror
An old curse, a dead Nazi occultist, obscure horror flicks and two bisexual friends navigating 1990s Mexico City - this book has it all, and more. I loved the complexity of the characters Montserrat and Tristán as well as the pacing of the story, once it started to pick up. Thoroughly enjoyed this one!

Ein Buch, das ich vor kurzem gelesen hab, hat mir total Lust auf mehr Gothic-Horror-Geschichten gemacht, gern mit modernem Twist. Das Buch war "Silver Nitrate" von Silvia Moreno Garcia - und ich suche jetzt nach passenden "Nachfolgern". Ihr "Mexican Gothic", das ich bisher vermieden hatte (weil ich gefürchtet hab, dass es overhyped ist), ist auf der Wishlist, zudem "What Moves The Dead" von T. Kingfisher.
