If you missed Bandcamp Friday and don't want to give them any percentage of money, my #Jamuary album is also up on my ko-fi https://ko-fi.com/s/7e4dd07339
Thanks for checking out my first full-length album which is out today*. I kind of made it by accident but as I usually overthink things that made a nice change.
I had to take a "forced" break from music because I was busy moving to a new house. Today I finally found a bit of stability, but I still haven't made any music.
So I'm dedicating myself to #BandcampFriday for the first time (always missed it and pretty new to BC).
First, I want to share some cool stuff that just joined my collection and which I strongly recommend.
Then, I'm happy to announce that I finally found the time to get my stuff together and put something on my Bandcamp!
Since this may be the last #BandcampFriday for all we know, I've collected my entire #Jamuary efforts into an album that you can purchase without a single cent going to the bastards who bought the platform. It's 31 tracks of me proving how goddamn good I am at making music on a deadline. https://traiken.bandcamp.com/album/jamuary-2024
Tomorrow is #BandcampFriday which means artists keep more of the money from sales.
The #Jamuary challenge is done and I'm polishing some of the tracks I made and releasing them as EPs. Here is the first, it is called "Airfield" and includes the tracks made on the 4th and 5th.
Finally, for #Jamuary 31st, a track that feels like the last track of an album, because that's what I'm going to do with all 31 of these. And as I often do, I save some of the best for last.
It's calm and chaotic, moving and hard-hitting, a sonic feast whipped up in only one day. Enjoy; I know I did.
Generative "music" for #genuary31 features the Langton's Ant from my "Grow a seed" #GenerativeArt continuously modifying a drum pattern sent as #MIDI notes to the Korg Volca Beats. The wobbly functions from another previous #genuary prompt control the pitch of arpeggiated tones synthesized using the #Processing Sound library which I never used before.
For #Jamuary 30th, I took a stab at a kind of 90's dance/jpop thing. I have been laughing with disbelief and glee all day that I made this thing happen.
For #Jamuary 29th, I got back to the kind of electronic rock I have the most fun making. It's a refined version of the kind of stuff I'd have done ten years ago: energetic, a bit weird, a bit experimental; a combination of sounds I find enjoyable, compelling, or interesting.
Really couldn't conjure inspiration for today's #Jamuary jam. This is my 3rd year doing it, and the last week is always the worst for coming up with ideas.
You feel like you've used all your tricks and sources of inspiration and there's still two days to go.
Don't worry! You won't remember this part. All you'll remember is how much fun the overall experience was and how much friggin music you made in a month:
I hadn't meant to return to the breakbeats again so soon but I started with a sample of a rusty metal gate I recorded on my way to the shop, added a distorted recording of my noisy neighbours latest party (which turned into a dirty bassline) and the breaks just seems to fit.
For #Jamuary 26th, there are no synths here. Every sound was a sampled instrument or a recorded instrument.
I also, once again, had a hell of a time exporting this. There's still at least one annoying click, but it's better than when the audio completely dropped out. I didn't even have time to do one last quality check because IT'S ALMOST MIDNIGHT FUCK
One week, 7 tracks! I’ve been trying “Jamuary” for real this year: track per day for a month. Trying to only spend 30 mins on the idea and 30 mins practicing / “performing” on camera. Haven’t busted that budget too badly, but oof it’s hard not getting side-tracked. The playlist thus far: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLW9arycjoILjyq-uJbEUzIWd_b7Sj8hvV
