#FolkyFriday: Queen #Medb went to her chief #druid and demanded of him what her own lot in the Tain Bó Cuilgne should be. But the druid said only: “Whoever comes back in safety, or comes not, thou thyself shalt come.”

#TheAcolyte is the #StarWars I'm most excited about – finally live-action moves outside of the 60 years of the #Skywalker saga. I have loved all the #HighRepublic books that I've read, and it's easily the most different of the Star Wars eras in both #Legends and #Canon.
I think the trailer is edited too quickly for people to be able to take in the differences in the #jedi robes, the designs of the buildings, etc. I hope I won't be disappointed and think it all still looks the same.
#Celtic#MythologyMonday: The words of #Niamh of the Golden Hair sparked in Oisin a irresistible craving to live with her in the #Otherworld:
“Delightful is the land beyond all dreams,
Fairer than aught thine eyes have ever seen.
There all the year the fruit is on the tree,
And all the year the bloom is on the flower.
There with wild honey drip the forest trees;
The stores of wine and mead shall never fail.
...“

#Celtic#FairyTaleTuesday: The exceedingly beautiful maiden Niamh was riding on a snow-white steed. She wore the garb of a queen; a crown of gold was on her head, and a dark-brown mantle of silk, set with stars of red gold, fell around her and trailed on the ground. Silver shoes were on her horse's hoofs, and a crest of gold nodded on his head.

#FairyTaleTuesday: #Etain, daughter of Etar, wore a bright purple mantle waved round her; and beneath it was another mantle ornamented with silver fringes: the outer mantle was clasped over her bosom with a golden brooch. A tunic she wore with a long hood that might cover her head attached to it; it was stiff and glossy with green silk beneath red embroidery of gold, and was clasped over her breasts with marvellously wrought clasps of silver and gold; so that men saw the bright gold and the green silk flashing against the sun.

The new novel Cold by Drew Hayden Taylor draws on Anishnawbe and Cree legends to create a tale about a Toronto detective who needs the help of an Indigenous hockey player and an Indigenous Studies professor to confront the horror that has overtaken Canada’s largest city.
Legends geared to adults “talk about the flaws of human nature,” says the author. “I think we still have flaws that need to be exposed.”
#Celtic#MythologyMonday: When her travail seized the horse goddesses #Macha all the spectators felt themselves seized with pangs like her own and had no more strength than a woman in her travail. And Macha prophesied: From this hour the shame you have wrought on me will fall upon each man of #Ulster. In the hours of your greatest need ye shall be weak and helpless as women in childbirth. And so it came to pass.“

The Thrash Metal Legend Who Single Handedly Popularized One of The Biggest Punk Bands Ever
Several years after they broke up, a New Jersey band was rescued from the dustbin of obscurity by a man they never got a chance to meet.
Sorry, had to redraft. My app is not having fun with the edits.
A thought I've been chewing on after a particularly vivid dream: I wonder if the minotaur in the maze was a symbol of the internal human struggle between our needs in both a wild and a built world and how those structures, like cities, are overwhelming and oppressive while simultaneously being isolating and entrapping. Or perhaps a symbol of domesticates being trapped between two worlds...
Day20 #ArtAdventCalendar Sometimes I feel "stone-agey" in #design, especially after a #hike in a very special mountain #forest. An ancient #ochre quarry is hidden on the slope. #Legends tell of a magical snake at a spring, often a reference to #geological features. There is still some eroded rock in different ochre colours. I first hammer it into small pieces until I can grind it. This produces pure ochre pigment.
I had a St. Martin's Day gig this week. My favorite part of St. Martin's legend is the episode where a man comes to Tours, spreading the news that the barbarians are about to attack. Panic breaks out. Bishop Martin summons the man, and discovers that he is possessed by 16 demons. The demons are intentionally spreading lies about a barbarian invasion to create panic and discord in the city...

In work news, I have spent half the insurance money already on repairs.
I doubt I'll see the contractors, but it will be finished soon, I hope. #Siding#Repairs#Fiona 2022
