Received a Miyoo Mini Plus for my birthday a few weeks ago and I've been tuning it to perfection since then.
The fact is that I spend more time faffing about with these kinds of emulation devices than I do playing them.
I installed the preferred OS, OnionOS, refined the list of games to my Best Of, tuned my favourites list and am now scraping artwork for the selection menu.
There's still a bit more to do until it's in optimal running order but it's been fun and distracting getting it this far.
Syncthing is available just about everywhere and keeps folders in sync between devices. I've just spent a few days getting this configured on my devices and it works (mostly) great!
@Liquidream@gwoptics I wouldn't say WiFi is essential for using Splore, but rather it's essential if you want to access the BBS and its online carts. If you don't have the Plus you can still use Splore to play the games you've manually put on the SD card. Yes, it's fantastic having the NATIVE Pico-8 on the Miyoo Mini!
@CaptManiac@gwoptics Fair point. I should've said something like "in order to make the most of Splore", as otherwise all the main internet-connected benefits (which I consider it's best feature) will be unavailable.
much too slow story - enemies don't feel dangerous, story sounds okay but develops too slow
I don't even feel like like the different combat is nearly the worst problem - would have expected that (love tripple-tech, hate real time combat like zelda)
My first hours with the #Retroid Pocket 2S reminded me how easy setting up a #MiyooMini was... Starting from scratch, having to install standalone emulators, doing far more #RetroArch config than any sane human should have to do...
But I finally got there, and ended up withwhat seems like a really nice device. Comfortable to hold, really excellent sticks and triggers, it runs everything up to #Dreamcast and #PSP really well, and even a few #Gamecube games.
@nylekyland Guncho, Canyon Crisis, Birds With Guns, Beckon The Hellspawn, PicoKaiju, Charge! I absolutley love, but not sure what can run on the mini+ due to fake8 :\
@rasterweb@FiveElementNinja Welll do I??? 🤓 PicoKaiju, Air Delivery, Beckon the Hellspawn, Buns: Bunny survivor, Witchraft TD, Charge!, Kumatori panic and Guncho for sure! I also do a review series for PICO-8 games called PicoShorts!
And of course, Pico-View tries to feature newly released games, where I co-author feature reviews and help with others for random reviews! Directed by NerdyTeachers and @marinamakes! https://nerdyteachers.com/PICO-8/Pico-View/
I'd made the mistake of playing Aria of Sorrow (the best #GBA CV game) first, so was reluctant to go back to this. I remember getting it on GBA launch day and it being unplayable due to the screen. Shame, because it's pretty good. Kind of halfway between old CV games and SOTN CV games.
It's main weakness is how much grinding is needed for levels and cards. But I found myself really enjoying the bosses.
Absolutely the way. Loading thousands in then spending hours making sure they all have box art that is just-so leads to a big “no what..?” moment.
As you say, keep it down to what you’re actually likely to play. I do much the same on the Retroid Pocket 3, with the happy bonus that I can use it’s browser quickly grab the odd extra game on-the-go should the desire strike!
I’ve allowed myself PS1 though - need that Street Fighter Alpha 3 fix 😜
@davetansley I found myself reading this and remembering undertaking the same effort for the same reasons about a year ago. Almost the same set of rules too. I find myself enjoying #RetroGaming immensely now - and I actually play the games too!
