When people get older, they’ve tended to talk about how hard things were for them back in the day, how these spoiled youngsters have it so easy.
I’m not doing that. I grew up in a green and vibrant world alive with possibilities, where nature was not lashing out at us and withering before jaded traumatized eyes trying their best to look away. Where we breathed each other’s air without a second thought.
Where companies were places to build careers and products people needed.
I think this particularly true in gaming. When I think of '70s arcade culture, when I was 12-13, that's completely gone now.
And what's replaced it is this ultra-capitalism where games workers are routinely expected to overwork to levels that affect their mental and physical health.
The money in the biz has made crunch time and un-finished releases commonplace.
Our patrons are definitely special and worth to know! It's true we're not an "elite mad skillz haxx0r l337 community" BUT: 1) we're not really old, we're vintage! 2) like whiskey, we get better with age! 3) we don't play dudebro games such as #CallOfDuty#Warzone2 and if we do, we do only to yell to young operators to get off from our lawn! 4) we yell because we're getting deaf!
