Fun for all the cRUSTaceans - you can now write embedded code in with PL/Rust. AND it's a trusted language!

Today I tried to setup a PHP ecosystem on my MacBook Pro M2 with Podman. It was a little bit difficult but I have done it ☺️

Now I have a isolated pod where my fpm and are running. The only published port is 8080 for the nginx.

But the best benefit is: Each container runs rootless !

Here is the link to the repository:

Today's video of the day 📺 was presented by Postgres committer @tmunro who I am privileged to work with at Microsoft.

It's all about Parallelism in PostgreSQL. With a lovely sock analogy to boot. Thomas is such a good explainer & teacher, hope y'all enjoy it.

So @element took part in the European Police Congress in Berlin, had a booth and presentation there, and is proudly posting on the fedi about it.

I’m currently paying them $11.90 a month to host my homeserver on their EMS platform.

My payment in April will have been the last.

It’s one thing to provide FLOSS comms to the government. It’s another to proudly support our fucked up police system.

Okay, I finally took the time to set up my own server. Took me the better parts of two days, but that’s because I wrote the setup in instead of just typing commands. Also, setting up and a resizable volume complicated it a bit further.

Now waiting for ’s support to provide me the data dumps, keys etc. from my instance they are currently still hosting.

If I didn’t need to import existing Synapse data, I probably would’ve gone with .

I just published a short guide explaining how to upgrade PostgreSQL 🐘 from version 14 to 15 on Ubuntu 23.04 (Lunar Lobster) 🦞 after upgrading it from version 22.10 (Kinetic Kudu) 🐐

Such an innocent looking query... I didn't expect it to do this!

One table has 500 rows, the other has 381k. Table stats are accurate. The planner still decides it will return 39M rows, roughly 20% of what a cartesian join. The screenshot is from pgMustard, plan here: https://app.pgmustard.com/#/explore/486276b3-d9e5-4bc8-a1eb-a3a23cd1caf4?highlighted=0

#FerretDB 1.0 has been announced
Ferret is a proxy that sits between your #mongodb drivers & a #postgres db converting mongo queries into postgres SQL and using PG for the persistence.

https://www.ferretdb.io/

I am finding myself at a complete loss as to any practical reason why someone would want to use this. The ONLY case i can make for it is that it satisfies people who are zealous about open source licenses and aren't happy with Mongo's.

What am i missing?
