The results also suggest that N95 masks, also known as #respirators, should be the standard of care in nursing homes and health care settings when respiratory viral infections are prevalent and transmission risk is elevated”
New study: "First, there is strong and consistent evidence for airborne transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and other respiratory pathogens. Second, #masks are, if correctly and consistently worn, effective in reducing transmission of respiratory diseases and show a dose-response effect. Third, #respirators are significantly more effective than medical or cloth masks." #CovidIsNotOver#WearAMask#N95
Anyone out there with technical expertise (like academic / trade / scientific qualification) on #Covid#Covid19#Mask technology, specifically about sealing, pressure, airflow, path of least-resistance, and silicone #PPE masks, like #3M#Respirators etc, please get in contact - I have a couple of specific questions with regards to long-term solutions for immune-compromised folks, and they're not questions someone trying to sell me a mask solution is able or willing to answer. Thanks.
Why can you still smell things wearing an effective #mask?
You can #smell some nasty things like #smoke and rotten eggs even with fit tested #N95#respirators which block tiny viruses/bacteria because the smell molecules have atomic masses that are 17 million times less than a #virus . 🧵 1/
my MSA Advantage 900 finally arrived! but with no filters? I was pretty sure it came with a couple P2's?
oh well I was going to get P100s anyway and it's salary week. better to buy all the things I want now at the start of the month, when the end of the month arrives I mysteriously am always broke
I don't suppose anyone knows for sure if filters advertised for the MSA Advantage 200 will fit the 900?
visually it looks like they would, but would be nice to know before ordering. I'm in Europe so I find "P3" models rather than P2, but MSA stuff is hard to get here.
Some people consider the breathability of N95s to be a benefit, but considering that it manages to fog-up my glasses (the design was really not made with masks in mind and it shows, I'll get different ones next time) anyway (if to a much lesser degree than masks which don't seal on my face, but the top still breathes as much as the rest of it), I find proper reusable respirators do much better at completely doing away with the fogging-up issue.
"Masks work. Distorting science to dispute the evidence doesn’t.
New mask studies relying on a medical paradigm do not erase decades of engineering and occupational science that show they work."
For an airborne infectious disease, it's important to lower inhalation dose. "The ways to do so don't require empirical RCTs. Basic engineering science will do." -Richard Corsi
On Wednesday morning, after we found out about the #Covid case, I met with my supervisor in her office. I relayed my concerns re: #CovidIsNotOver and 5 day isolation/stay home reqs for staff & students.
You can imagine how it went. Lots of incorrect/outdated talking points from her, gentle (but firm) retorts from me, trying to convey the gravity of it all.
I realized: this is what the avg American thinks about the pandemic bc of #MSM’s inaccurate, harmful #SarsCoV2 takes.
@novid My supervisor seemed frustrated with me when I was refuting her points about how long the average person is contagious with #covid19, how everyone should be wearing #masks and #respirators, even the kids, etc. Info I consider basic, she had absolutely no knowledge of.
I tend to avoid confrontation, so this wasn’t an easy conversation to have. But she agreed to read up so she might be able to implement more precautions before sessions start again w/the kiddos in a month.
Hey #CovidIsNotOver people! I start a new job tomorrow (fully in person) & am a little nervous about keeping myself safe. Here’s what I’ve got in my toolkit:
I’ll only eat outdoors, weather permitting; otherwise I’ll find a private room & run the purifier before unmasking. I will use #NasalSpray several times per day.
Can someone share the best mask recommendations for COVID currently? There are some pictures with in-depth test results and comparisons - can people reshare those pictures? (Trying to find them, struggling)
For Patient Safety, It Is Not Time to Take Off Masks in Health Care Settings | Annals of Internal Medicine https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/M23-1190# “Although gold-standard evidence is not available, we argue that, despite the lack of clinical efficacy trials (as with the widely accepted practice of #HandHygiene), #masking in interactions between # patients and #HealthCare personnel should continue to receive serious consideration as a patient safety measure.”
“Laboratory studies have done what clinical research has not and demonstrated that #SurgicalMasks—and to a greater extent, filtering facepiece #respirators—are effective in limiting the spread of #aerosols and #droplets from individuals infected with #influenza, #coronaviruses, and other #respiratory viruses. Although not 100% effective, they substantially reduce quantities of virus expelled during coughing or talking, thereby mitigating risk.
How #respirators actually work and which type is best?
I see many people claiming #masks don't work. This thread will explain how they block #viruses much smaller than the size of the holes in the #filter and why you can still smell nasty things while wearing effective masks. 🧵 1/
