I copied this obituary this morning from the LA Times, just a reminder to everyone that #covid is NOT over. #COVID19#maskup I am not related to this lady, but on this mother’s day please protect those you love. #covidisnotover#covidisairborne#science
Long Covid can impact "everyone, regardless of age or the severity of one’s original symptoms.³ The largest group of people living with Long COVID is younger than one might think. According to the CDC, U.S. adults ages 35-49 had the highest rates of Long COVID symptoms . . . Plus, a recent study showed that by one’s third COVID-19 infection, patients have a 40% chance of developing long term symptoms"
New: Cases surging globally (again), KP.2 FLiRT variant dominant in US “defies vaccines,” FDA postpones vaccine meeting, Moderna warns LC risk rises w/each infection, tests rated from best to worst, WHO knew it was airborne, hospital acquired infection = nearly 1 death/day in AU, and more.
Each Pandemic Roundup from @violetblue is a trove of info:
-New KP.2 FLiRT variant dominant in US, “defies vaccines”
-Colorado court ruling: Covid is an “occupational disease”
-Washington state launches free test kiosks
-WHO offices were upgraded [in 2020] against airborne viruses same month it stated covid isn’t airborne
Fencing, the pandemic sport: everyone wears masks & gloves; come within 6 feet and get stabbed.
Anecdata on the prevalence of masking across recent travels:
Significantly more common in London than Malmo, Copenhagen, and Helsinki -- saw just 6 other people masked across many thousands of people, 2 of which were in chinstrap mode 😂 And at least three times as prevalent in San Francisco than in London.
Many factors at play, no doubt. I find it fascinating! Makes me grateful for what we've got here in the SF Bay Area.
#IDMastodon it’s taken me nearly 4 yrs to recover from #LongCovid . I’m 1 of a fraction LC population to recover & #MaskUp 😷 always be for I leave the house. Is #longCOVID forever? A new study has clues.
Research hints that those with symptoms may see an improvement after two years—but not everyone…
Updated estimates of Long Covid in England and Scotland show that it remains a serious issue
"Of those who currently have Long Covid (>12 weeks), over 50% have had it for over 2 years, and over 80% for over a year. However, almost a fifth have developed it over the last year."
"rates of self reported Long Covid in those of working age who are not employed & not looking for work are almost three times as high as any other category."
#IDMastadon#publichealth There is the reason to #maskup😷 and Why we should keep 😷 on in the enclose environment ? In the new study show ambient CO2 affects how long #SARSCoV2 remains infectious in air & even subtle increases in CO2 affects both how long #COVIDisAirborne and transmission risk @ukhadds .
#BirdFlu Is Infecting More #Mammals. What Does That Mean for Us? #H5N1, #avianflu#virus, killed tens of thousands of #marinemammals, and infiltrated American #livestock for first time.
H5N1, one of the many viruses that cause bird flu, had already killed at least 24,000 South American sea lions along the coasts in less than a year. Now comes for elephant seals.
Scientists are working quickly to assess how it is evolving and risk it poses to humans #Maskup
Walking around Sriracha #Thailand to get breakfast this morning, some 60%-90% of folks in mostly #KF94 respirators. It was just the Thai New Year's celebrations here over the weekend, maybe folks are seeing an uptick in sickies and responding appropriately, or just taking a simple effective precaution to avoid illness.
Fwiw, I've encountered very few coughers or wheezers in shared indoor spaces compared to what's been normalized in the US. Go figure 😒 #CovidIsNotOver#MaskUp
Fighting an invisible illness: The curse of Long COVID. By Milanda Rout
"Exhaustion, erratic heartbeat, brain fog, pain: women aged 31 to 45 are contracting Long COVID in greater numbers than any other part of the population. Why?"
@DenisCOVIDinfoguy@auscovid19 Again, I ask, why aren't these people also screaming that we need to clean indoor air and that we should encourage everyone to wear masks!! How are they ok being reinfected and having worsening symptoms again and again?! The disconnect is astounding...

For peeps in the US. I had a link up for a company in Canada, but they don't ship to the states.
I am ordering today to give it a try. I do have a few work days where I have to wear a mask for extended periods, so staying hydrated has been a challenge (my job is physical).
I have seen posts from other Mastodonians saying they have used these on plane flights and avoided catching any and all bugs. Cool!
Hey folks, Amazon has a huge sale on the 3M Aura masks. It's coming up as 45¢ for each mask for me, and even cheaper if you buy the bulk amount. I have been buying from this distrubutor before and they are not knock off Auras. #maskup
