“The Danish Girl” was based on the life story of Lili Ilse Elvenes, otherwise known as Lili Elbe. She was born in 1882. Her diary entries documenting her transition formed the basis for a book about her life. So, being trans isn’t a “modern phenomenon” after all.
What do you for Self Care? Here's Aiden talking about their acts of Self Care: “I take naps, read, write, listen to music, and I eat snacks. Showers are also very soothing. I like the sound of rain, so sometimes I just turn on rain sounds. I also clean and organize stuff.”

"Through my own identity as a trans man, and one of a race other than white, I really wanted to share my own experiences to show that everyone's on a different path. It's not an easy journey and I don't think it's ever really over. It can be emotionally draining, but it can also be really rewarding." Leo Sheng
Really getting into reusable #WebComponents lately, incl. this one I worked over the last week for the new thi.ng website: a WebGL based image transition (via displacement mapping), primarily using https://thi.ng/shader-ast & http://thi.ng/webgl...
Always be dogfooding (your tech): Updated my WebGL image transition web component to display blurhash previews before & during image preloading. The hashes are provided as text attribute (~30 characters) and decoded to preview images via https://thi.ng/blurhash...
Always trying to be aware of bandwidth & energy implications (also UX related), this component is 100% lazy and only performs any work when absolutely needed (i.e. during transitions), otherwise is completely idle (not even using a dummy requestAnimationFrame() loop). Images are only starting to be preloaded when the component comes into view (using the IntersectionObserver API)
Other features added:
slideshow mode w/ arbitrary number of images (at least not limited by VRAM), adjustable delay time
choice of easing options/functions for transitions
dynamic loading/replacing of images & updating underlying WebGL textures
Today is #SelfCare Monday, here's some advice from Athiette: “I moderate my twitter usage, only look at news sites twice a day, try to make connections with people who will be supportive, and indulge in cute things as I find them.”

For over 30 years, puberty blockers have been safely used to delay precocious puberty in non-trans children aged 6 to 12 years. Trans youth receive them at the onset of puberty and often for shorter lengths of time.

"Suspension of puberty is not only not unethical: if it is likely to improve the child's quality of life and even save his or her life, then it is indeed unethical to defer treatment." -Dr S. Giordano, Journal of Medical Ethics

For many trans people, being able to transition can be absolutely life changing and life saving.
One person told us "Before transitioning, I could not see myself in the future. That person didn't exist, there wasn't a space in the world that I could fill. Now there is."
One of the biggest challenges in transition for many trans people is getting their doctors to give them the care and medicines we need.
Patient Self-Advocacy is one of the best ways to bridge that gap, but you probably don't know How To Get What You Need From Your Doctor. Come by and have a read to see what good self-advocacy looks like, as #StainedGlassWoman returns from holiday break!
Are you a trans person (including non-binary people, of course) that's fundraising to cover the costs of transition related care? Or other trans related stuff?
If you are, we might be able to help you by sharing your fundraiser on our social media channels.
Have you heard of a bridging prescription?
Trans people can ask their GP for a bridging prescription for hormones to help them cope during the wait for an NHS gender clinic.
They don't have to give them, but if you're stuck on a waiting list and want to access hormone therapy, it is worth asking.
This proves to me that the last of the people who believe the conspiracy theories or are hard core deniers are essentially unscrupulous liars and charletans. They can and should be shouted down and ignored.
