Yesterday morning, very suddenly, my beloved cat Frankie Fangs died of a stroke. He fell off his cat tower, I heard it, I picked him up, and after trying some rescue breaths and his inhaler, I had a few moments to make him feel loved. Dev and I were there while he crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.

He was the best gato and was filled with unconditional love. If the spirit moves you, please donate to your local pet shelter because animals are the best parts of our lives and deserve all the the care we can give them. Frankie is survived by his little sister Whisper, and nine and a half years of incredible, joy-filled, incredibly funny, lifelong memories.

AlexandreSieira,

@Tarah so sorry for your loss, he was clearly very loving and loved 😢

Super happy about this milestone on the @TenchiSecurity journey! We just raised a $7MM Series A from Bradesco PE&VC, L4 Venture Builder and Accenture.

The company was on a solid financial footing, and did not need to raise a round. But we decided to anyway once we found investor partners who saw the value in what we are doing and bring much more than "just" capital, and will help us strategically in executing our thesis.

The additional funding will allow us to accelerate product development, sales and marketing. Our goal? To be a proudly Brazilian global cyber security player, and disrupt the Third Party Cyber Risk Management space.

Huge thanks to all the customers, partners and team members who put their trust in us. Rest assured we will continue working hard to exceed your expectations.

Cookie must be a cat/dog mix, since he clearly likes to fetch!

This is my bestie for the past 17 years, Thor. At one point, we had 4 cats. Thor is the last man standing. (All the others led long, happy lives). My oldest son and his fiancé live with us and have their own cat, Eevee, who is Thor’s new arch nemesis. I post many pics of Eevee here, too.

It’s not even 6am where I’m at and I’ve already apparently illegally suspended the account of a Brazilian super model who just signed up. How’s your day going?

AlexandreSieira,

@jerry I got worried there for a while, but then I realized that since I could read that toot it wasn’t me. 😅

I’ve been volunteering as an MC at @mindthesec for a few years now, and it’s not a small investment of time and effort.

But being able to introduce and get a front row seat to a talk from folks I greatly admire, like @evacide later today, is priceless.

AlexandreSieira,

@mindthesec @evacide I cannot overstate how fun the talk was, and what a great and professional speaker Eva was even in the face of some technical issues. 👏🎉

AlexandreSieira,

@evacide @mindthesec I can say we are ALL extremely grateful you do this for a living. 🙇‍♂️

  • AlexandreSieira,

@lcamtuf I think there is a crucial difference between sharing your values with your kid and imposing them.

Also, I believe 90%+ of the impact of sharing your values is by example. And hopefully few strangers will interact with them more than you at least in the more formative years.

So that gives me some comfort. Hope it does the same for you. 🙏

Looking at the PANW deck that is so much on the spotlight now... and these fake figures immediately hit me.

This is EXACTLY the one @sawaba mentions in his talk "Myths and Lies in InfoSec": https://youtu.be/Bvps1JdYYlE?si=Xs14R_hUb56BVRBT&t=560

This is your reminder that the deck in question is a marketing piece, and makes the same old marketing stretches so the company that produced it appears in the best possible light. This is not an unbiased and data-driven analysis of the market. So keep you skepticism well in mind when you read it.

TIL that when you manage Step Functions using or , you have no control over JobDefinition revisions. So whenever you change a job definition, CloudFormation creates a new revision for it and inactivates the previously active one.

So in practice, when you update a StepFunctions job definition any existing long-running executions that depended on the old version will simply fail. And waste a ton of resources and potentially money.

Depressed to see CDK folks were already aware of this in August 2020, and it didn't seem relevant enough to AWS to have been fixed since then: https://github.com/aws/aws-cdk/issues/9144#issuecomment-681081310

This sort of problem is exactly what turns some engineering leaders off of for other architectures.

In particular, I wish AWS would spend more energy into making CloudFormation support better across the board. Like requiring support for new services and ensuring a minimum resource coverage as part of service teams' goals. Because it doesn't look like this is the case today. Something many people like @Quinnypig have been screaming (in the cloud) about for ages now.

Sorry for the rant. I like AWS and serverless, but this boiled my blood today because it had non-trivial impact into my operations and cost and took the team quite a while to figure out. Now we'll have to figure out an ugly workaround to implement. 🙄

    AlexandreSieira,

@timbray @Quinnypig good point, edited the post to make that clearer.
