One of our , Green, is an adoption case.

She's a Severe Macaw, ara severus.

Her owner was a sweet gay guy in his twenties. He had her for the first ten years of her life. She spent most of her time out of the cage and what her owner didn't have in knowledge he did have in care, attention, and affection for her (which goes a long, long way).

Her cage is probably exactly what he knew to buy at the time: the largest cage he could afford with correct bars. Probably used

Also, for those who aren't aware, Ara severus are known as "mini macaws" but it would be more accurate to describe them as the "smallest of the true macaws."

They are compared to military macaws in a lot of ways. Their temperament is legendarily sharp. The running joke is that they are called severe macaws because of the exchange "how is your bite?" "oh, it's severe!"

They are considered, consistently, one of the most difficult species in a smaller package.
