I'm a simple man: I like my beer cold, my music loud, and my swords laser. I write TTRPG stuff & design nerdy t-shirts. (he/him/anh/anh ấy)

@LeviKornelsen @mintrabbit I love collections with fun names. Most of my stuff ends up in collections like "Want to buy" or "Check later".

Important announcement for Tabletop Designers doing weird esoteric games:

Not enough of us apparently know what an Egregore IS, because holy shit have a lot of us (including me) talked about it without the word.

@LeviKornelsen Sorry. I thought you knew. Egregore is like a big communal tulpa.

(We already told you about "tulpa", right?)

Using two spaces after a period was only correct for a narrow span of typographic history (after the introduction of the linotype machine ~1886 until the adoption of phototypesetting in the 70s and 80s). If you aren't casting hot metal type (or using a mechanical typewriter), stop doing it.

Continuing to do it on a computer with digital kerning is like slicing the end off your ballpoint pen with a knife because you learned to write with a quill and "that's how you're supposed to use a pen!"

There appear to be new people arriving on Mastodon, looking to fill up their feeds, and following me, and to those people I say:

@LeviKornelsen I woke up this morning and saw my phone was loaded with new follower notifications from Tusky, my Masto-reader-app of choice. I thought "either Twitter imploded or I'm on some kind of list..."

Some days the bear owls you.

I'm wearing my teal Owlbear t-shirt because I need a bit of cheerful color today. (If you want one, they're currently on sale in my threadless shop.)

I'm sorry everyone but we need to take back whatever we all said about Apple not doing machine learning right.

iOS 17's Photos app can now identify and explain laundry symbols in pictures and this is amazing. No more need for apps that do this; just swipe up on a photo.

@viticci Laundry machine manufacturers should just print a chart that explains these symbols directly on the doors of the washer and dryer.

I'm currently The Elements of Typographic Style by Robert Bringhurst. I was expecting some dry technical details about kerning or the mathematically ideal textbook angle for the slant of italic , but it's deeply poetic and passionate about language and meaning. It's like opening an astrophysics text expecting a bunch of numbers & stellar spectra, but finding instead a joyous rave about how the human mind is electrical impulses printed on stardust.

I really like the MCU overall, but this drives me nuts.

Villain: I believe that all people should be free to determine their own fate and live free of hunger and persecution.

Audience: Well, that seems fine. I don't see the problem with that. Is this the real bad guy or does the villain come in later?

    Writers: Uh... Uh... typing furiously

Villain: I also believe in mass murder and random acts of terror that are entirely counterproductive for my cause.

Audience: Ok. That's bad, I guess.

I just got a gut punch while working on my project. I found a lot of perfect illustrations on a stock art site, all by the same prolific artist. The style was distinctive & would have given the book a unified look instead of "here's a bunch of public domain stuff you've seen a million times". I couldn't buy them at the time, so I saved them in a gallery on the site so I could get them later. I just went to look & they're all gone. The artist seems to be deleting their accounts.

@bedirthan I'm working on it. I found a few other sites with the same portfolio, but now I have to figure out which site has the best pricing plan for me. (I'm not signing up for a year-long subscription just to get a couple dozen images.)

I have distilled gaming to its essence. Fuck around and roll some dice to find out. (If you want one, this design is available on t-shirts, stickers, mugs, etc. at pufferfish dot threadless dot com.)

I just got an email from DrivethruRPG telling me that I sold another copy of "3 BONES", the little that could. It's a pretty simple little thing, but it can do a lot. When people read it, they usually say "Oh wow! Yeah! I'm going to use that!" and then they take bits of 3 BONES to add to the other games they play.

I basically made a soup of my favorite game bits and boiled them down to a condensed broth. It's at DTRPG and also at Itch which has a free version you can check out.

@ParadeGrotesque Every self-made billionaire story about "starting out in a garage" glosses over the fact that the garage was attached to their millionaire parents' mansion.
