After panning the Humane AI Pin, a MKBHD review of Rabbit R1 had the same conclusion even at $200 and no monthly sub needed: don't buy a product based on a feature roadmap, buy it based on what it can do today.

And what the Rabbit R1 can do today... is very little and just as erroneous as the Humane Pin. Same as that device, he suggests holding off.

I think it is safe to say that MS, Apple and Google are likely not going to release competitor hardware in the AI hardware space just yet.

A lot of iterations and venture capital will need to make these find any direction at all, if not a pivot away from public sector to specialized use (Remember GoTenna? Now unless you are a military contractor, they're done with hikers and outdoors people.)

@Cefr Oh, I absolutely believe Apple will be competing with these devices in the “AI”/LLM space. It will be called the “iPhone” 😂 (Apple Watch, etc)

But you’re right, I don’t think people are gonna be coming out with dedicated devices that only do AI crap.

Say what you will about the Deftones, but it takes committment to wear a Beanie on a stage at 84 degrees in Southern California during a Music Festi— and he just flung it off. Good on you, Chino Moreno.

A gentle reminder:

If a website requires to turn off an ad-blocker or identify yourself before you can participate at all: read, search or navigate past a home page, it is still a paywall. You're paying by foregoing any semblance of privacy to sell your habits to marketers.

In the "Fucking Duh" Dept., although one would think this rate of attrition would be faster than this.

Back To The Future if it was shot in 2010:

Marty: “What happens to us in the future, do we become assholes or something?”
Doc Brown: “No, no, no, no, no, Marty, both you and Jennifer are gonna turn out fine. It’s your kids, Marty, something’s gotta be done about your kids! They deny their genders, try to topple patriarchy, stopped having children, and turn away from God!”
Marty: “Doc, turn away from God? Really? I thought you were a scient—“
Doc Brown: ”Goddamn it, Marty, we need to make Biff Tannen President! It’s the only way!”

I mean, they’re not wrong. Reddit graybeards and moderators are panning the stock plan before the IPO.

This is a world where stocks go up then are divided to punish late buy-in, then stocks are bought back to go private and there isn’t really any rhyme or reason to any of it except a handful of well-positioned folks will make millions and a large portion of everyryone else is paying excessive taxes and getting $32.05 from decades of stock ownership. (Enough for a dinner bill.) And that’s if they’re lucky. They could have worthless stock.

If Huffman thought this would create goodwill, it’s not working. The stocks aren’t being handed out for free, for starters, they’re receiving a “chance” to buy it. It also means for long-term Reddit users who can’t own any stock for various reasons, all of this is meaningless.

In case you need it (likely not) further proof Dave Ramsey is an asshole. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/dont-pass-math-homebuyers-call-130700730.html

Even following his advice still won't buy you a house playing by his rules, because it's your fault you don't earn $11,000 a month. This is a rich bastard who gets his joy teasing the poor with relief then slapping them for not being rich.

This isn't learning via tough love. This is ridicule and humiliation of the masses as entertainment. Get debt free on your terms, not his.

@Cefr He always annoyed the fuck out of me, even when his advice seemed more grounded in reality, it was largely outdated for the time we live in. I remember he had this whole thing about taking all your money out in cash and putting it in envelopes, which sounds both ridiculous in the digital age we lived in even back then, and just extremely unsafe always. What if you lost an envelope?!

Not hard to guess why TV, Radio and Newspaper is against Biden.

  1. Billionaire ownership at the C-Suite. Some more than others, most indirect conglomerates.
  2. Democratic collapse sells interest.

I don't know why restrooms are so fucking hard.

Solution for restroom problems via politics when your business doesn't have the funds/space to redo it:

  1. Put up a Round Bathroom sign with a man, woman, child inside it on all restrooms. If people seem confused, a nameplate that says "Unisex Bathroom" should straighten it up. If not, you got smart customers.
  2. Install a door lock (one sided with a service pin release in case someone locks themselves in and doesn't respond), and sufficient amenities for any biological need for anyone at any age.
  3. There is no step 3.

Men who need to go and the traditional 'Men's Room' being occupied can simply use the other one. Women don't need to rush while using an empty men's room in fear that a man is waiting when she's through. If there's baby stations, any bathroom can be a family bathroom if you lock the door. Bathroom has a tampon dispenser and a 'men can' next to your toilet? If you don't have the associated parts, simply ignore them.

@RickiTarr One interesting idea I read from someone who was into architecture — for new buildings stop making bathrooms for gender and make them for capacity: Large, Medium, Small. Large ones we all know. Mediums are the Family Bathroom. Small is the typical Water Closet: sink, pot, mirror, and nothing else (doesn’t have to “be” small: wheelchair accessible of course.)

The trick: ALL of them have a locking entry door. Even the Large one. The whataboutisms can be answered by society at large. (Large Bathroom Etiquette: go in alone and lock the door? Enjoy the icy daggers from everyone in line on your way out.) And the building involved can mix them.

Airports? Large and Small abound. Lounges, business class, and VIP ones more small than large.
Hospital? Medium ones default for patient waiting areas, small ones in wards and to support staff.
Schools? All three.

Yes, urinals aren’t in that plan, but guys should look carefully at their shoes the next time they use one. No matter how ‘neat’ they try to be, there’s thousands of small drops proving otherwise.

If Firefish is going to come back, Kainoa won't have a hand in it. They quietly handed over the keys to the repo to a maintainer... who has publicly stated they aren't a programmer and are just looking after commits. Not exactly a signal things are starting back up.

https://git.joinfirefish.org/firefish/firefish/-/issues/10847

Unless there is an announcement soon about someone taking up development again, I think it's safe to say Firefish is over as a Fedi platform.

Optimism wants to say that someone will, but at this point even if someone does it'll be playing catch-up to the current state of affairs. It isn't possible for someone to come off of the street and say "I'll do it" and go back to the pace that was happening last summer immediately. (But it's not impossible for me to be wrong and six months from now someone does. I'm just not banking on it happening. Even the Firefish name itself might be too damaged in reputation to even take back up.)

, , and are derivatives who are continuing onward with things. All three of them have disassociated with FF completely so it seems Misskey still has a future with non-Japanese users. (Iceshrimp even spent time on a new non triangular logo to further separate from Firefish.) Server admins who wanted to consider a Firefish instance but shied away from the drama last fall may want to follow those projects instead.

If your fedi server is still on Firefish, don't be surprised if an announcement "were taking signups on our new Plombus server, in X months Fleeb will be decommissioned" comes down sometime soon. Internet services without recent updates are asking for trouble from exploits and vulnerabilities. Also, without an active FF developer to fix standing issues (or a skilled DB admin on your instance's behalf to whittle the database and schema to fit the new system as well as possible) a cut-over migration where users don't lift a finger isn't in the cards like the Calckey to Firefish migration last September. It likely will be up to you to decide to either move your account Mastodon style (no post migration, just your follower lists and a link back to the prior server) or to just start fresh.

Ah, so it really wasn't a coincidence when I visited my parents out of state, the same radio station was on the dial on six frequencies.

Christian Radio conglomerate “Educational Media Foundation” buys out both non-profit and private stations to turn into Air1/K-LOVE clone repeaters. Unlimited growth, no laws to stop them. And Non-Profit: CEO makes more than Clear Channel in yearly income, tax-free.

I wonder what the airwave war between Clear Channel and EMF will look like when there’s nobody left to buy?
https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/christian-radio-educational-media-foundation-1234946121/

"But for now, EMF and the Christian-rock industry, it seems, are happy to be a joke if it keeps scrutinizing eyes off them. “The public just doesn’t really care what they’re doing,” says Urick.

Keep letting Christian rock be nothing more than a punchline. The Educational Media Foundation, it seems, thanks you."
