@RickiTarr Damn near everything. Coping is basically self-care and taking care of my car with a rigid timeline of fixes, because without it I am completely helpless. Something goes wrong at all and I am on my own.

Hearing everyoneโ€™s advice on the matter:

โ€œAsk someone from your family to move in.โ€ I did, repeatedly. No takers.
โ€œGet another job to speed up your plans.โ€ Iโ€™ve got three. At the same place, but maximizing my earning potential has already been realized. Extremely privileged I am in a position to do this, and still have weekends completely off.
โ€œGet a 2nd Car.โ€ Doesnโ€™t change the fact I can only rely on myself (and AAA) if things go bad. Also double the expenses in several places: maintenance, registration, insurance, etc.
โ€œQuit and do something else.โ€ Uh, tech jobs are on the decline. If I do, itโ€™s eating minimum wage at entry level jobs all over again hoping to get back to where I am now.
โ€œMove somewhere else.โ€ Oh, Iโ€™m trying. Especially when November comes around if the Darkest Timeline reaffirms itself, to hell with my plans and just get to safety.

@mxtthxw @Jyoti @skypunch Their current approach is allowing iOS apps onto Mac.

I'd be a little happier if some Mac apps work on an iPad if you attach a Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse or their Magic Keyboard thing. (File saving needs a look before they try that. The Files app remains clunky.) Close the app, back to iOS... I mean iPadOS, the totally different and not alike system.

@NotImpressed I had an ugly sob on that video of a Palestinian woman saying her university was destroyed. It's terrible their country is being wiped off of the map and she's still thanking US students for the moment against the inevitability of either dying or facing an uncertain future as a refugee.

@RickiTarr I think their perspective is because millennials and Gen Z do everything wrong (as far as we all are told that boomers and Gen X believe). So millennials and Gen Z would do best not to exist because every single other option for them has negative feedback, including nothing.

I think most people are writing the rabbit r1 by Teenage Engineering as "another AI no one asked for" that might be true... HOWEVER LAM "Large Action Model" sounds interesting. An assistant to be able to use apps, not use APIs... literally use the apps by clicking buttons & such. But, the reason it sounds interesting is that fleeting hope it might, at long last, help me to avoid the little UI bugs/failings that drive me nuts in many apps.

Which begs the question: why not just fix the UIs? 1/

After panning the Humane AI Pin, a MKBHD review of Rabbit R1 had the same conclusion even at $200 and no monthly sub needed: don't buy a product based on a feature roadmap, buy it based on what it can do today.

And what the Rabbit R1 can do today... is very little and just as erroneous as the Humane Pin. Same as that device, he suggests holding off.

I think it is safe to say that MS, Apple and Google are likely not going to release competitor hardware in the AI hardware space just yet.

A lot of iterations and venture capital will need to make these find any direction at all, if not a pivot away from public sector to specialized use (Remember GoTenna? Now unless you are a military contractor, they're done with hikers and outdoors people.)

@RickiTarr Not really anyone telling me this, but the long-standing dramatic presumption of every single thing you do is remembered by an entire town and 30-40 years after high school everyone in town is "hip to your nonsense". Good people get lauded, bad people get shunned, and thats how everything is.

And 12-15 years after graduating high school, I returned to my former hometown and worked at the schools that I attended as a kid. Nobody cares.

You can take that as sad and cruel... Or take it how I did: incredibly liberating.

For those who are on the fence after high school and can't decide if staying local or going abroad is going to be worse... It's all going to change anyway. So be greedy and do what you want to do.

Leaving home won't change who you are or leave your emotional baggage behind, and staying home won't keep anything how it is or make you any less realized than those who go. It's probably the only time that you won't have any consequences for whatever you choose.

@RickiTarr Grades 4-11: Dork. My entire deal was similar to Sam Weir from Freaks and Geeks, just put it in the 1990s.
Grade 12: Useful dork. Described myself this year as "social chameleon" who could move across cliques, but really, life after HS was scaring everyone I thought suddenly liked me. And the Graduation was the culmination of it. The silence from that point forward was all I needed to know.

Number of friends I was in touch with 2 years after HS: 0. I have no interest in changing that.

@Alice My brother (no longer with us anymore) felt that pain. Birthday four days after Christmas. So many years part of the gifts relied on another, so he'd get the wrong stuff first that would give away his birthday.

Or result in a key gift with zero accessories and him wondering if they're coming or Dec. 26th he needs to make returns to get what he wanted only to open a duplicate on Dec. 29th.
