@ghosttie oh for sure. And it was so obvious from the beginning that it was never going to work in a million years.

I was a VR dev for quite a while! If I couldn't get my wife, a tech worker, to be in VR for more than five minutes, how was the average joe supposed to care?

@ghosttie I doubt even then. People like to dick around too much. Anything short of a complete sensory override a la "Roy " from Rick and Morty isn't going to be anything but a gimmick. AR has potential though.

Screw it. If you kill a NPC they are dead. There are only a small handful of quests that are required so I just need to protect those NPCs. If you go around killing NPCs then it's less quests for you.

@grumpygamer in the original Fable, you could break into people's houses at night and murder them in their beds. They would never respawn and were just gone after that. Not sure if it was a bug or designed this way, but I was basically able to depopulate every town in the game. It got lonely.

@mcc it's just a cash grab plain and simple. The talented contributors will stop and the site will get overloaded with out of date AI crap. But the owners won't care, they got the big payday they really wanted.

How close are we to replacing power sockets with univeral power/data cables? So, for example, your fridge plugs into the wall using USB-C.

@upmultimedia many modern electronic devices could function like that but things like a fridge, a stove or a heater? Forget about it. There's a reason AC current is supplied over 16-12ga wires.

    For the dev of my new game I've ditched Slack in favor of Discord for the dev team. One advantage of Discord is that most devs have a Discord account so I am not asking them to sign up for something new. So far, it's a big win. Slack has turned into a mess.

    Git/LFS shows a lot of promise, but it's still a kludgy add-on. It needs to be built into core git with zero setup for users (not for admins). It needs to just work without any user knowing it's there.

    @grumpygamer Unity acquiring Plastic SCM was a tragedy. I really liked how it just worked all the time and was dead simple for anyone to setup and use. With Git/LFS we basically need an engineer to sitdown with an artist and troubleshoot their borked situation several times a month.

    A few years ago I removed Google from my life. The only thing I can't remove is Google docs. Too many other people I need to work with use them.

    @beeoproblem this is why you order directly from the factory and lock down the price ahead of time with the dealer it will be delivered to. Get everything written down. If the dealer won't work with you, find one that will. For major purchases like vehicles I'm willing to drive hundreds of miles to work with people who aren't crooks. This is how I buy all my vehicles.
