I fell on one of our city’s uneven sidewalk’s.

I’m okay but it’s going to leave quite the bruise.

I’m able-bodied and still find our sidewalks dangerous because they’re so uneven and in rough shape, imagine how bad they are for people with disabilities.

@siobhanwanders They put in sidewalks around here that slant down halfway down the sidewalk for cars (Almost as if the car is more important than humans) it's quite a slant in the winter with a bit of ice. Stupid design.

Sure, there have been riskier waves, but we are currently as high or higher than the peak of many of the waves

Unless you are looking to increase the risk of a long term disability or / and an early death.

WIth everything we know, this pandemic is now twice as long as the last one which was 100 years ago. Good job everyone.

You know how they make conductive gloves with little conductance passthrough fingerpads so you can use a phone touchscreen while wearing them? They should make conductive band-aids so people like me who are constantly injuring themselves in minor ways can type on a phone with a bandaid on a thumb

I have a question for people who know more about than I do. We have one of those key fobs for push-button start. Last night, out of the blue, the remote wouldn't unlock the doors (battery is fresh). We had to use the emergency key to get into the car. To turn off the alarm you have to place the fob in a specific spot in the middle console so it recognizes the transmitter. So - where is the transmitter? Is it not battery powered too?

@srgower @Nerdfest Which is why a Faraday shielded purse is useful. A piece of aluminium foil works just as well. Keeps people from cloning the RFID chip. Don't hang your keys at the front door without shielding them! They can be cloned from the doorstep.

I hate the attitude that working very hard is some kind of moral obligation, it just isn't. People on salary that get asked to work overtime are being stolen from, period. It's interesting how often jobs will ask you to prove that you're a good worker, but never have to prove that they are good employers. Just like any good relationship, you should never be giving more than you're getting back.

Wonderful evening at the National Gallery last night.

I love that their free Thursday nights make art accessible for everyone in our city and they also have music, a bar, crafts, tours, and other activities. The perfect way to spend a Thursday evening!

@Pinchy63 @siobhanwanders Parkdale market is sad these days too. Lot's of silly stalls but few farmer (producer) stalls. One stall was a photographer(!) Turning the market into a boutique tourist(?) place rather than a farmers market. Sad.

@stephanie I had dug into DNS code years ago. I puked at how bad some of the code was. DNS was designed in the days when we used to need a hosts file so there is that. ;)

I just moved servers. When I first joined (2017) there was very little choice. I like being on a local city server so I moved. Introductions wasn't a thing when I first joined so I waited until I moved.

I'm an Atheist (Old school not the New Atheist kind), pretty geeky (but I leave that on other servers hamradio + FreeBSD)
Married with one daughter who is a local musician in a band. Probably more but if you have been following me elsewhere you have the idea now anyway? ;)

The results are in.

The problem is DNS.
I think they set the TTL's to 86400.

Not my problem thankfully. I just saw it go whizzing by.

@human3500 @johnefrancis With a long TTL it's going to take a while before every caching DNS server figures out it has to redo the DNS. TTL is like "Here's my phone number but it will change in 14 days so check back with me then" So if you change your phone number before 14 days, they won't be able to reach you.
