DiverDoc,

@erin @Catelli I know. It can be a real problem at times. I think that call centre reps are monitored for length of call and length of time to solve problem. More time is undesirable, so they just don't want to get into it. They want: Q: Is this Monday? A: Yes. Goodbye.

"COVID is just the flu."

FLU: CDC estimates that there have been 260,000 hospitalizations and 16,000 deaths from flu so far this season.

: Since September 30, 2023, the CDC reports there have been 427,997 hospitalizations and
30,768 deaths.

Even during flu season, which will soon end while COVID continues on, COVID is almost twice as dangerous as the flu. And that's to say nothing about Long COVID and subclinical damage COVID causes to hearts, brains, and other organs.

Governments do not want to implement higher indoor air standards because it is expensive. Governments would have to spend money upgrading their own facilities and cannot impose standards in private businesses without improving their own buildings. Perhaps over the years as new buildings are built, higher standards will apply, but I doubt that we will see much in the way of retrofitting. Follow the money.

Ecuadorian Diplomat Found Dead in Moscow Apartment, State Media Reports

https://news.yahoo.com/ecuadorian-diplomat-found-dead-moscow-103901985.html

> Nikolay Asmolovskiy/ReutersAn employee of the Ecuadorian embassy in Russia was found dead in a Moscow apartment, Russian state media reported Thursday. A source told RIA Novosti that preliminary information indicated that the death of Jorge Patricio Palacios Porras—who is listed on the embassy website as its plenipotentiary minister—“is not of a criminal nature.”

Had to get a couple of new pairs of glasses today (alas, you can only forestall reading glasses for so long), and wow -- even with insurance -- the local prices keep on climbing. (Typically, get one pair from the optometrist, and then buy cheap online spares). The two might cost more than the Blue Book price on my car. (I can afford them, but that would HURT if I could not).

@qurlyjoe @ai6yr @CassandraZeroCovid

Agree. Unless you have special visual needs, and are experiencing presbyopia (progressive age related worsening ability to focus clearly on close objects) , then “drugstore” glasses are quite acceptable. You can also often find them in bookstores.

Followed instructions on the net to replace the battery on my electric toothbrush. All came apart quite nicely. I discovered that I would need to do some fine de-soldering and re-soldering to get the battery out and replace it. I have soldered before but not on this tiny scale. I gave up, and put it all back together, but not before I found out that in just a few more steps I could transform my toothbrush into a light sabre, but I decided that I need my toothbrush more than I need a light sabre.
