Variants are fantastic! I did all of them solo, then when people finally took an interest I got to enjoy them with whatever size group was available. I'm excited to see more of them in Dawntrail! :blobcataww:

I've been playing a lot of 2D Sonic but I'm still not sure how I feel about it, specifically the Genesis era.

I know it also depends on what you grew up with.

Sonic has complex level design with a lot of different routes, tons of speed, multiple characters (eventually) and challenges.

But I can't help feel that Mario, especially Mario 3 and World have a degree of polish these games just can't touch, like everything is intricately crafted.

Sonic just feels like the kitchen sink sometimes.

I think that's a very apt way to describe the design philosophy for the two series in general.

Nintendo has focused on refining Mario over the years. Seeing what works and doesn't and really polishing it.

My understanding of Sega is a lot of the Sonic series has been rushed, especially in the 3D era, but a little in the 2D era too. Sonic CD and Sonic 2 were being made at the same time. Sega also seems to rarely look at what works to refine. Just ship and start on the next idea.

Yeah. I grew up with a Genesis and Sonic 2 was the first one I played on it so I for sure have a bias favoring it. I really loved when we got Sonic Mania and saw what can happen when Sonic gets some refinement love.

Sonic won the battle but Eggman won the war. I’ll go back for those emeralds another time. Sonic CD will be next up, the one I know the least about. Sonic 2 was my favorite but maybe Sonic 3 will grow on me.

Also did some more NES Turtles II. This game has the most basic controls but it’s really tricky to take the hordes out without taking damage. Bosses are usually about jump kicking in just the right way. It’s charming though.

The Lv 60 job quest for Red Mage was hard for me on controller bc I'm bad at selecting to heal - if you play RDM how often do you need to heal others (not yourself) in groups? I love the job but maybe I need to switch to tablet like my other healers.

I think the only time I healed others as a RDM was when I ran it through Palace of the Dead and Heaven on High when we didn't have a healer in the group. I'd say if you are RDM healing in regular group content something has gone horribly wrong and you are trying to salvage a near wipe. :blobcatgiggle:

I think the main use for Vercure is to be a short cast to insta cast a bunch of rezes quickly.

One year ago today I decided to finally join Mastodon. I remember agonizing over it for a while, trying to figure out what instance to join or if that even mattered.

Look at how small Julia was in my first post! I think she was around 4 months old (estimate) at that time.

It's been an amazing year meeting and getting to know so many amazing people on here. I'm glad I made the leap over here. :ablobcatheartsqueeze:

I had a thrift store NES that would randomly decide to freeze and would bootloop if I didn't use a Game Genie for some reason. I got a lot of my desire for hard challenge out of the way early too. :blobcatgiggle:

I'll occasionally get hit with wanting to try something harder, but if I struggle for too long I shelve it for a while and come back later. That's me right now with the XIV extreme trials, back to stomp them and see where I finally hit a wall.

It's so handy that other people are still uploading to . I'm slowly switching to Sage & I haven't uploaded a thing with it, but I still have parses on it.

I've done Thaleia only twice & there are no logs there. Euphro & Aglaia are super easy, but at least I can see that I'm pressing some buttons correctly. It's no where near my WHM, of course, but at least it's mostly purple.

I /have/ been (deliberately) practicing shielding when it's not necessary.

SCH feels closer to WHM to me than SGE. I couldn't get into SGE, but I've absolutely fallen in love with SCH. It's totally more than getting to have a Carby than having the fairy. :topazcarbuncle:

I treat the shields like a Regen, and Carby passively heals everyone. If things get spicy I have some bigger heals to react with. I'm still working on using my kit effectively, but it was really easy for me to move my brain from WHM to SCH.
