I’m a New Englander who loves to walk, cycle, kayak, travel and build community. In my community I'm a Town Meeting Member, and I serve on the Library Foundation (we're building a new library), and on the Community Path Project Committee (we're building one of those too). I joined Mastodon to find news, thoughtful conversation, and fun.

I am getting questions across a few soical media sites about the ongoing trials.

I gave some quick answers about the problems with this.

Maybe, for my next blog post, I should offer a more thoughtful and thorough answer about what a lawyer can actually say that is valuable as a trial progresses.

It will probably appeal to my geekiest readers and annoy everyone else.

Maybe I should call it: "Beware the Lawyers." (Like "beware the Ides of March" but worse.)

And now well meaning and hopeful people are going to fall for more Hamas propaganda. 🤦‍♂️

@Bam

I’d love to be hopeful, but things like this (2nd bullet under ‘Summary’) make me skeptical:

“It is not yet known exactly what the group has agreed to - and whether Israel will give its backing to the plan”.

Sometimes one is weirdly able to worry simultaneously about the most mundane personal matters and the most serious global and national ones. Today, worrying about the situation in the Middle East does not put into perspective the stress of packing up my household for a long-distance move. Instead, my psychic perspective is flattened, with concerns about both occupying the same plane. Know what I mean?

Thinking of you on this Saturday as your house hunting adventure moves forward. Here’s hoping it goes well!

Sorry if I'm not replying. Busy!

We may put offer on a house in Canada that we have yet to see except in photos & vid.

Our kids are up there to see it Sat. when it lists for real, getting lots of interest, it will sell & we still need to drive up, which takes 3 days (we don't fly w Hammy), so we gotta move FAST.

Ack! No pressure, right?

FYI: Finding a house in Port Moody is needle/haystack, so it's crunch time. Our agent =🥇

No, we haven't sold ours yet.

We leave TOMORROW!

EllenJS,
@EllenJS@mstdn.plus avatar

Ain’t house buying fun? 😉
Best of luck to you. Port Moody looks lovely.

EllenJS,

There are fun aspects; but after several years (two condo sales and one house purchase, with a wedding and a job layoff along the way), my husband and I were ready for it to be done!

Hopefully, ours is the winner.🤞🏼

I'll put this response here for everyone:

The Court made a decision. All we can do is speculate about why. Eventually we may know why they elected to proceed in this manner.

Like everyone else, I can speculate on why they proceeded this way, but I refuse.

I predict they'll nix the idea of immunity.

That's different from speculating on what happened in a closed meeting.

(Maybe, as a defense lawyer, I am accustomed to courts not doing what I want them to do or think they should do.)

Could your theory about dragons being in the reasoning apply to the Roe decision? I believe I read somewhere that although RBG felt abortion should be legal, she disliked the reason why that Roe provided.

A word about left-wing conspiracy theories.

Yesterday I sent about 10 people to this page because they were saying the same untrue things about Merrick Garland that I disproved here with facts:

https://terikanefield.com/can-democracy-work-in-america-part-iii-an-msnbc-cnn-conspiracy-theory-and-the-perils-of-legal-punditry/

That's when I realized a new Merrick Garland conspiracy theory had taken hold.

My initial reaction was pure irritation.

A knew what it would take to disprove it. . .

One author whose book Teri recommended, historian Heather Cox Richardson, also writes a daily letter that is usually about current day American politics through the lense of history, and sometimes is just about the history. I’m watching a show on Amazon Prime and they start playing an ad right in the middle of it, WTF?

If this is the new norm for streaming they’re not giving me a lot of options here 🏴‍☠️

EllenJS,

You do still have options — you may just not like them.

“If you haven't noticed, all Prime Video content now includes ads. If you're a Prime member and you'd like to opt out of viewing the ads, it'll cost you an extra $2.99 per month.”

idea for a Mork & Mindy episode where Mork accidentally kills Putin and must pose as the Russian president. all he says to anyone is “nanu nanu,” and this is interpreted to be so philosophically deep that Russia finally experiences the Renaissance

The statement “this is interpreted to be so philosophically deep” reminds me of Peter Sellars character Chauncey Gardner in the film ‘Being There’. If you’ve not seen it watch it — you’ll enjoy it.

Once it does, I'll be back to covering news instead of whining about this endless day (the phone was only part of it, you have no idea. 😫 ).
