So... I left Evernote months ago when they hiked their pro plan subscription (like 163% !) It was bloated, and their free plan was crippled; that + the company had been struggling for years to find a CEO who could bring some kind of vision back to the app. It all flopped and they were sold to Bending Spoons.

Over the ensuing months, I was fortunate to find a replacement! An Open Source, fully encrypted, Evernote killer. And what a note taking app it has become.

A major release (v3.0) was launched officially today. 8 months of non-stop development and testing by a two-man Dev team has really brought this app center stage. These guys are hands-on with listening to user feedback on their NN Discord server; when they find time to sleep beats me (the plight of the developer).
Read about this latest journey AND all of the great new features of v3.0 that are note-taking game changers, on their blog post:

https://blog.notesnook.com/introducing-notesnook-v3/

You're going to hear more about Notesnook in the weeks and months to come and it won't be coming from me. It will be from a growing userbase that can't help but share the awesomeness that Notesnook brings to notetaking.

Can notesnook sync with NextCloud storage, or a self-hosted server?

@NeadReport @notesnook Will keep an eye on that, thanks!

As the crisis in continues, the detail(s) that come to light are both horrifying & instructive of how far the collapse engineered over the last decade & half by the has gone.

We should be enduring our young people have a supportive & developmental school environment, not causing (especially vulnerable pupils) further angst, stress & isolation.

@ChrisMayLA6 Wifey is a senior teacher in a primary school. The lack of staff is already causing serious problems, impacting education and leading to a significant increase in disruptive behaviour problems.

All local schools are facing deficit budgets and even more staff reductions. Supply teachers are very difficult to find.

The collapse of the UK education system now will be a problem for decades to come. We can't afford NOT to increase public spending, for public services, significantly and very soon.

This might be the greatest policy a politician has ever come up with. Just brilliant 👇

REMINDER: ChatGPT, Stable Diffusion, and other large trained neural models are NOT "artificial intelligence", they're just stochastic parrots, remixing and regurgitating what they've been fed. There's no theory-of-mind involved, so no understanding: there's no "there" there. (A real live parrot exhibits more intelligence than this.)

Don't call it AI; call it parrot-tech. That way you'll have a better perspective on what it can (and can't) do.

@cstross Should be called AP - Artificial Plausibility.

Vienna has once again been named the world's most liveable city - Edinburgh has dropped from 35th to 58th 👎 https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/worlds-most-liveable-cities-2023-vienna-b2362144.html

Edinburgh could learn a lot from Edinburgh, but too many Edinburgh Cllrs aren't interested in making the City a better place to live...

I think this is a large part of why Tories like to encourage car use.

Cars divide us, spread us apart, and stop us talking to each other as we go about our daily business. This limits the formation of communities.

They can then lie to us with less fear that people might stop and think and discuss things.

I love this quote, from an interview with Fredi Otto (link below), who works on attributing extreme events to climate change:

"'We've been brainwashed to think that 'freedom' is to live in concrete and drive a car. That's a very stupid definition of freedom.""
