This week's major project is splitting the tractor, to replace the failed oil seal which is leaking oil from the gearbox into the clutch housing. We've got to the point where the only thing still holding the front half of the tractor to the rear is the steering linkage, and I can't remember how we split that last time!

@simon_brooke itit wiffa ammer 🤔. Is it on a taper?

Glencoe,
@Glencoe@mastodon.scot avatar

@simon_brooke Never seen tapered splines. Heat and impact might help. Load it up with the puller, heat it, then shock it with say a brass drift and hammer. Best release stuff I've ever come across is a home made mixture of diesel and acetone.

@simon_brooke Well done 👍 Coincidentally I was chatting to a neighbour today who was having trouble dismantling a car wiper mechanism, apparently it has splines on a taper.

By all means, let's protect our natural environment, but, we DON'T need another bureaucracy.

No more national parks.

I'm not alone, I've seen a few such banners in the locality.

@fitheach Agreed, piece of nonsense.

My car has front and rear parking sensors, the car beeps at you when you get close to objects. When the sensors are iced up (the rear ones at least) they think you are very close to something and beep. Not only is there beeping, the brakes are also applied so I cant actually move backwards, and I can't find any way to turn the system off! FFS! Madness. Now worried if driving in snow and the front sensors get covered in snow, will the brakes suddenly come on and I get rear ended?

There are still people pushing the "self-defence", "antisemitic" narrative.

Let's get a few things straight.

The term for slaughtering tens of thousands of defenceless people who have nothing to do with any attacks on you isn't self-defence, it is genocide.

Deliberately starving people who have nothing to do with any attacks on you isn't self-defence, it is a crime against humanity.

Valid criticism of the Israeli state is not antisemitic it is not a criticism of all Jews.

Typical, not bad weather wise today, until doggie walk time, then it pisses.

The fig tree used to have two figs on, but one fell off so now there is one, hope it ripens. There are more coming but there's no chance of them ripening. It's a year one tree so maybe better luck next year.

Dear holiday makers. Have you any idea how annoying it is to follow someone dawdling along the road for mile after mile, then when a good overtaking opportunity occurs, they put the pedal to the metal and shoot off making overtaking at best difficult, if not impossible, then slow down to dawdle speed again when the opportunity is gone? Some of us are going places, have stuff to do and limited time to do it. Enjoy the scenery by all means, but please do let following traffic pass. Don't be a dick

If I had a website trying to flog stuff to the public, I really wouldn't have a cookies pop up which potential clients can't get past without choosing which cookies they will or will not accept. As a potential client of someone with such a website, I've exercised my choice and gone somewhere else.

Was at the vet in Coal today, went for a walk along the beach. There are two wrecked ships on the shore, an old fishing vessel and this sailing boat. Looks like she was built for speed.

A wrecked large sailing yacht lying on it's side above the high water mark. View is from above.

So, the French And Spanish companies building the wind farm, and who the profits will go to, with equipment manufactured in China and UAE are flogging half the output to probably power Amazons' data centres, which as we all know are essential for the survival of civilisation (sic). But it's ok because there will be 70 jobs in Scotland. When will we ever learn that flogging off your natural resources for peanuts is a really really awful plan.

For Xmas, I got some kind of squidgy ectoplasm stuff for cleaning keyboards. Feels quite good just to squeeze it too.

Jings, it's windy and wet out. Already been out to rescue the fruit cage door which had come off it's latch, I think the post has moved a bit but the hinges seem ok. Put the tarp back on the dry, now wet, firewood, bit of a struggle with that. And the recycling bin was on its side with contents strewn everywhere. Got soaked.

A couple of mobile phone shots looking over Loch Leven this evening with the loch very calm.

A photo overlooking Loch Leven, the loch is nearly flat calm with good reflections of the mountains. Some autumn colour is just coming in.

A judge in New York has ordered former President Donald Trump to pay nearly $400,000 to cover The New York Times' legal fees.

Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

It appears that the BrewDog Lost Forest has in fact been largely lost. To date Scottish Forestry had paid BrewDog £690,986.90 for planting, but seemingly large numbers of the planted trees are now dead.

Media folks. An 'election' where all credible opposition is either dead or in jail, where armed men are in the polling booth with voters looking at how they vote, isn't an election. Please cease playing Putin's game, don't call it an election, it isn't. Call it a fake election, call it a corrupt election, but never ever just 'election'. Call it out every time.

Pre Lockdown it was reasonably possible to go for an afternoon dog walk in Glencoe in the popular places. Post lockdown that's pretty much impossible, why? Because every conceivable place you can park a vehicle is rammed solid, and by car is the only realistic way to get there. For example, the last two midweek afternoons I've fancied going to the hidden valley I couldn't as no possible place to park reasonably close. Same with other spots, if you aren't there at sparrows fart, forget it.

It now appears the Post Office accounting system called Capture before the Horizon system, was also likely faulty and could cause shortfalls. My dad was a sub-postmaster during that period and did suffer significant shortfalls which he had to make up. I know he didn't take it. It had a very significant effect on his mental health and pretty much ruined his later years.

What madness is this? In order to get at the windscreen washer bottle and motor, you have to take the front off the car. FFS! If you really must bury the bottle at least put the motor somewhere accessible.
