That's all of this year's calves tagged. A stressful evening, but successful. One of the tissue-sampling tags failed (the calf was struggling and I missed his ear), and one yearling who needed a remedial tag evaded capture, but perfection is for the gods.

Pictures will follow – for obvious reasons, they're not on my phone.

Edited to add: pictures.

@simon_brooke I'd be very wary of anyone who forcibly stuck earings like that on my lugs. Apart from it being sore, them things are hardly on trend, not exactly svelte! 😂

As well as introducing MG versions of its Rover saloons and hatches, in 2002 MG Rover also revamped the MGF sports car, which was rebadged as the TF. The most visible change was a slightly more aggressive frontal treatment. But under the skin, there was a stiffer body shell and the replacement of the previous hydragas suspension with coil springs. Snapped at the 2023 NEC Classic Car Show.

@davidwilkins Not at all sure mid engine was a wise choice, little room for stuff, maintenance nightmare. I think front engine rear drive would have been a more successful layout. More space for stuff, doesn't have to be terrible to maintain. Not that hard to make a fine handling front engine rear drive car that's a bit practical. Mazda MX5 hasn't done badly.

This is extraordinary, and a damning indictment of land ownership in Scotland. How on earth can a private company be in a position to give a capital city’s main bus station notice of closure? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cg302gkw779o

Glencoe,
@Glencoe@mastodon.scot avatar

@simonvarwell Dear landowner, you'll be delighted to hear that in order to promote Edinburgh as a green city, we have re-zoned the old bus station site as agricultural land. We are keen that local residents should have somewhere close to hand to grow their own produce. Planning applications to turn the ground into allotments for locals will be looked on favourably. We know you will be pleased to help provide a greener future for our wonderful city.

@simon_brooke Yes, but I understand Trump owns 60% for which he has paid the pricely sum of $zero. So if he sells his stake, even if the share price isn't a lot, it could still add up to a serious wedge, not bad for zero outlay anyway. I can't think he'd lose much sleep over investors losing their shirts while he walks away with a nice stash.

I had eye surgery yesterday, to clean out the filters in the drainage ducts of my eyes. I was (obviously) nervous about it. The experience was unpleasant but not terrible, and greatly helped by a surgeon with a great chair-side manner.

This morning my eyes feel not much worse than an average morning, and I have an only-slight headache. So (so far) this has been a much less bad experience than it might have been.

Many thanks to Scotland's NHS!

@simon_brooke I've had my tear ducts cleaned out years ago, was done with a syringe and probably saline solution.

It appears that the BrewDog Lost Forest has in fact been largely lost. To date Scottish Forestry had paid BrewDog £690,986.90 for planting, but seemingly large numbers of the planted trees are now dead.

I've spent an interesting hour or two researching cordless vacuum cleaners. Yes, my life really is that exciting. 😃

It's possible to spend hundreds of pounds on models from the high-profile brands. I've decided on a Russell Hobbs Centaur 2 in 1, which I got for £69, incl. delivery. Time will tell if it is any good. Although, at less than half the price of some other models, it is hard to see how it can go wrong.

After yesterday’s ADO 34, here’s a slightly later attempt to come up with a Mini-based MG sports car, the Targa-style ADO 70. This was designed in the UK but the prototype was actually built by Michelotti in Italy. They seem to have used the left-over green paint from the ADO 34. This one didn’t make it into production either. Pics taken: British Motor Museum, Gaydon.

I decided to treat myself by buying a new satnav for the car. My car doesn't have a satnav built-in, which with hindsight is a good thing.

The new model is a Garmin DriveSmart 76. My main reason for upgrading was to get lifetime map updates, which are installed via WiFi, directly onto the satnav (no PC needed). For me this is a major benefit, as otherwise map updates require a Garmin app running on Mac or Windows. The new unit will replace a Garmin Nuvi 65 LM.

Glencoe,
@Glencoe@mastodon.scot avatar

@fitheach My last car had everything for satnav, except the sd card. The manufacturer wanted £400 for the sd card 😬 But I got one off a well known auction site, from ummm Russia for £45. Worked exactly as it should, connected to the manufaturer's app no problem with updates and everything.

Glencoe,
@Glencoe@mastodon.scot avatar

@fitheach Yes the maps are on sd card. Updated via a PC app. Once the card has been inserted into the slot on a particular vehicle for a short time it becomes locked to that veihicle forever.

After a very odd conversation with campervan travellers the other day. A public information broadcast.

Buying e-bikes, strapping them to your diesel powered campervan and travelling hundreds of miles to use them for purely recreational purposes is not "green". E-bike purchase is only in any way shape or form "green" if they are used for journeys which would otherwise be made using a fossil fuel powered vehicle.

Here Suella, you know how you're aways gaggin to deport something, anything? Well, here's the thing, my garden is fair hoachin wi slugs, I mean it's over run wi the feckers. If you send a bloke up here nightly to pick them up, I could guarantee a very healthy 250 to 400 every night no problem. You can then deport them to anywhere you fancy, I don't care, suit yourself, that would be peachy 👍

Apparently it's common practice for restaurants to retain part of tips given by customers to their staff. Why isn't that a simple case of theft? I give it to the member of staff serving me, if any of that doesn't reach that member of staff it's been stolen.

So the World Central Kitchen convoy a) cleared its route with the IDF beforehand, b) traveled on an approved route, and c) departed at an approved time, so d) the IDF knew exactly who it was killing when it struck the convoy three (3) times.

It was so obviously deliberate, and so deliberately cruel—not just to murder these people, but to terrorize other aid workers into abandoning the Palestinians to be starved to death. To prove the IDF’s impunity and reach, and to compel the IDF’s defenders into apologizing for yet another unforgivable atrocity.

Glencoe,
@Glencoe@mastodon.scot avatar

@peterbrown @simon_brooke @HeavenlyPossum It simply isn't credible it was accidental. It's to deter aid agencies and to send a message, we can do whatever we want and there will never be any consequences.

There are still people pushing the "self-defence", "antisemitic" narrative.

Let's get a few things straight.

The term for slaughtering tens of thousands of defenceless people who have nothing to do with any attacks on you isn't self-defence, it is genocide.

Deliberately starving people who have nothing to do with any attacks on you isn't self-defence, it is a crime against humanity.

Valid criticism of the Israeli state is not antisemitic it is not a criticism of all Jews.
