    These are the nine TEN-T corridors. I believe they cover about 30 000 km.

    The EU requires a heavy duty H2 filling station every 200 km along the core routes along the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) by 2030. ๐Ÿ‘€ ! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

    Wikipedia says that the UK will close its last coal power plant next year.

    They replaced most of the coal with gas during the last fifty years.

    JohanEmpa,
    @JohanEmpa@mastodon.green avatar

    It's interesting how coal and gas never existed in Sweden. Pretty sure the thin coal strip is for the steel industry.

    Sweden replaced oil with nuclear. Now nuclear can be replaced with renewables.

    Germany is installing Europe's largest battery. :flan_cheer:

    500 MWh, to be ramped up to 3 GWh. Iron flow. Pumping electrolytes between two tanks.

    Sounds good - Turn off a coal power plant. Install a giant liquid battery. Connect it to solar panels.

    Why is he even hopping around the UK in a noisy helicopter when he can go by train?

    JohanEmpa,

    @NatureMC I'm not joking, just observing how he travels. He's one of the few contemporary state leaders that have a private train.

    @NatureMC
    Maybe it's diesel, I haven't researched it nor done any calculations. It's off topic to speak about who he is, we're just comparing private jet with private train here. It's not about politics, it's about train vs airplane for state visits.

    hansbot, to Hydrogen
    @hansbot@mastodon.green avatar

    This market analysis makes sense to me. is only a viable option for transport whenever batteries are technically not feasible. The cost of operating and maintaining technology almost always outweighs the benefits โ€“ and thereโ€™s no reason to believe that scaling up will fundamentally change the outcome
    https://www.hydrogeninsight.com/transport/hydrogen-will-almost-always-lose-out-to-battery-electric-in-german-rail-transport-train-manufacturer/2-1-1504868

    JohanEmpa,
    @JohanEmpa@mastodon.green avatar

    @Hypx @hansbot Battery trains work on an existing partially electrified rail network where the existing gaps are within the battery range.

    There are basically 500 rail lines in Germany where the starting station is electrified and the end station is electrified. Bridging the gap with battery instead of diesel works. (according to the propaganda articles)

    JohanEmpa,
    @JohanEmpa@mastodon.green avatar

    @Hypx @hansbot It's probably too expensive. These trains are short, with few people and only traveling a few times per day. Germany have a tight rail network stopping at many tiny towns. I have a feeling that France has fewer overall stops at tiny towns, covering the tiny stops with buses instead. Both system works well.
