Imagine two identical with mainstream users. Same number of users, same connectedness of the social graph, same demographics etc.

Social network A only has an algorithmic feed. Social network B only has a chronological people-I-follow feed.

What would the usage numbers look like in comparison? Numbers of posts, numbers of likes/replies/boosts, growth trajectory, etc?

I would expect somebody has done some research on this. Anybody know of any public results?

When we did road trips in the 90's... it seemed that the point we'd get hungry - the only thing quickly available were chain burger joints.

In the 2000's... we made a pact that we would skip those and find the local "mom & pop" small sit down restaurants. Occasional chain sit downs... but really we focused on the small business.

Driving life is better - and we have found some interesting out of the way places.

Essentially - get away from the cloverleaf!

Most places have strict rules around meeting recording and retention of recordings of meetings. Now imagine if everything everyone has done on a PC is recorded. The attorneys are going to have a field day.

It was one of my concerns while recording each class - twice a week starting March 2020...

College FERPA committee didn't have an answer.

Storage/viewer location was set up to not download - but that's easy to bypass - just screen record as the video played.

The real problem is recording our daily lives doesn't immediately affect us... it is only some time in the future someone manufactures a problem "with that thing we did".

Wanted: operating system that will work on my current computers, without 5 second Spyware, only runs apps That I Install, that does not change my settings after updates, that does not "phone home" with my data, that does not provide "A"lternate "I"lliteration for my searches.

Can someone help me identify this that I saw crawling on a radiator in our home? The hind legs are noticeable longer than the front two pairs, sort of like a grasshopper (though it's obviously not one). You can get a sense of its size from the bit of AA battery at the top of the photo.

Tell me again that LED bulbs would last 25 years. Make my day!

Generally no better life than incandescent or halogen in this open ceiling light fixture being used for about 3 hours in the morning and 5 hours at night.

Some LED are going quite long. I put a $25, early bulb in over 10 years ago in one low use fixture...still there.

I have a 1.5watt strip in basement on my septic sump pump circuit - always on - unless breaker trips. My warning to check it. Been going ~14 years.

They should not make the general life statement...

I've thought I should do a spreadsheet-- but then I pause and think... that's over the top.

I've seen quite a number of videos where folks pop the offensive diode off and solder across it - to make the bulb work longer.

I'd rather not get back into "board level repairs"... but might, just to "do it".

Realistically- they are just like Christmas tree lights -- AND THAT SHOULD BE OUTLAWED... serial connections just create waste.

Yes.

Sharpie...makes it easy to read. Pencil can rub off during installation or removal. Pen won't stick/write on the plastic.

The remarkable thing about any of the so-called social media sites is...

You are not required to participate in them. It is perfectly fine to not join... just as it is, to join.

You can't attend every party in the world (why would you).

Don't ever let someone make you feel bad for not being where they are. It is your time, not theirs.

Our Township took months to post minutes from meetings. Every resident can't attend all the meetings- not enough space.

Enough discussion and they do it online in pdf format- and easy to go back years. For every department. General, zoning, etc.

And they still hang it on the public bulletin board at the hall.
