When you watch those shoot'em up movies ... where they hook a character up to a car battery to torture them...

Remember. It's acting!

I’m on an energy saving kick.
So far this month between the hours of midnight and 8am we are averaging 1.2kWh per hour of use.
I can only account for a max of 400Wh/hr and even that is a high estimate.

No ac on. All computers shutdown.
The only thing running is about 200w of network gear, refrigerator and freezer. And some phone chargers.

Something is drawing power that shouldn’t be 🧐

And a pretty significant amount.... too.

That's more than "a vampire load"...

Have you checked for outside extension cords to neighbors?

Can you flip breaker on outside sockets overnight - maybe someone is hooking up their EV...?

🤔

@notsle @motoridersd

I get the electrical mess... 1918 house - w/remodel in early 80's. I don't think the electrical was via actual electrician.

I've changed all sockets out over time and they all had old-style metal crimps around wires and they were all loose. 🤯

If you have a sump pump - is it running all of the time? Probably would burn out or throw a breaker by itself.

Our panel map had 2 or 3 handwriting of circuits. I collected info and put it all in spreadsheet and taped to panel.

WOW - something is happening at 1am... that's a lot of pink.

Do you have any overnight local to cloud backups happening that kick off at that point? That still seems like not enough load to create that spike...

It will be interesting to know the cause...

JohnJBurnsIII,
@JohnJBurnsIII@kzoo.to avatar

@motoridersd @notsle

No neutrals. Interesting. So hot and grounds only. They must have just replace wiring from a knob & tube system - and not gone to 3-wire.

Unfortunately - good electrical revamp is not a small task (time & $$).

I looked at the Vue - and it appears to be DIY possible. Was that your plan - or were you going to get electrician in?

A box office failure that gradually attained cult status (especially initially in the USSR, as it happens), is the much underrated 1985 film "Enemy Mine" starring Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett, Jr. During an interstellar war a human soldier and a reptilian soldier of the opposing forces are stranded together on an inhospitable planet. The majority of the film consists of only those two actors -- it has often been said that it almost is a stage play in that respect until later in the plot. It just popped up free in the U.S. on Movies and TV. I do definitely recommend it. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y58-H9JHDs

Matt.
Why not have many of these kinds of devices which are easier to blend into society, instead of the monster 3 blade devices that are dangerous...take up a lot of land, and have spectacular failures.

These large units are just one company trying to outdo another company- bigger, faster, more $$$.

The smaller units are more friendly to maintaining, easier to introduce new models while old still provide power.

The boats that are being "played with" & sunk - are not billionaire boats...

Billionaires have boats of those sizes (40-60ft) - craned aboard their ships of >300 ft.

What is the scientific basis for pulled apart vs. Cut open Thomas "English" Muffins?

I don't taste any difference, especially when I slather on some sort of topping.

What I do know is depending on the knife used - there are more crumbs from the sawing action.

But really - other than that - what does it matter?

Actually managed to have a successful pair-coding session today with a grad student.

I find pair-coding really difficult because I don't process linearly. My thought process sees a problem as a big tree: I hop about from branch to branch very quickly and get a good understanding of the whole tree that way. I can't stand back from the tree and see it all at once, then take it branch-by-branch sequentially.

This makes me very annoying to pair code with. But I managed to restrain myself today.

JohnJBurnsIII,
@JohnJBurnsIII@kzoo.to avatar

@astronomerritt

I found that very interesting.

The two levels you note - for me highlight two distinct steps in how I go about doing any project.

I have to learn things about the subject first - then formulate it into a structure...

So bottom up first (brainstorm/mind-map), then top-down.

Unless I knew enough about the subject - there is no way I could do the top-down method - as that feels like a way to "spin my wheels" a whole lot until I can get traction on the subject.

Thank you.
