ME: I'm really, really torn on whether to just replace my motherboard or replatform to AM5. But that would mean I'd need a new case and all cases today are RGB messes designed for edgelord teens who-
FRACTAL DESIGNS <interrupting>: Hi
@garius Would you need a new case? I'd expect AM5 motherboards to come in the same standard ATX, mATX, etc. sizes, that should fit the same case. I could be wrong I suppose, but I haven't heard of any new standards for motherboard sizes.
On my second workday medicated. One of the best and surprising parts is confidence and trust in what I've already done.
Before, in essence I couldn't trust that my intent was what I actually managed to do.
I don't have to double check myself over and over. I just remember, and it's there. The live thoughts of tasks I performed still exist in my head and are accessible in moments.
@NanoRaptor
May I ask what it is you're taking? I'm considering trying to get my ADHD treated, but from what I understand the medication I used to take, Ritalin, is basically ungettable now.
I guess I should probably ask my doctor, not you. I'm just wondering if there's more choices now than just Ritalin or Adderall.
The way you describe these beneficial changes to your mind, I'm jealous. I want to be able to do that too!
@0xabad1dea
I suppose that's a good point. Personally, I think so many jobs requiring experience is a problem. How are people who just graduated supposed to work to get that experience, if all the jobs require experience?
@0xabad1dea
What about testing applicants to see if they know what you need them to? Instead of requiring any experience, I mean. I feel like that'd be a better way to do things, more people would get a chance at the job.
I wonder if there are any long-term implications for a planet having a moon that orbits opposite the planet's rotation.
I've got one of those in a story, and it's okay, a Wizard Did It, but I'm not sure if this scenario is unstable because of how their gravity interacts. At the very least, maybe it's slowing down the rotation of the planet slightly?
@foone
This part might be a bit silly though. But the "magic moon is coming back, we have a year to plan" part sounds like an awesome idea for a science-fantasy novel!
@AccordionBruce
I have one of those! The player I bought at an estate sale thinking it was a LaserDisc player. Came with a bunch of movies, my favorites being Used Cars and Young Doctors in Love. I've only ever seen those on CED. @codinghorror@NanoRaptor
It's been 36 years but I'm still mad at IBM for using identical connectors for the keyboard and mouse on the ps/2.
Come on. Not even a key pin? Or just make them interchangeable, it wouldn't take much more circuitry!
@foone
What, it spelled Foone? I know of the phenomenon, I have a C64, but I have never seen it spell anything remotely coherent. Spirits, half the time it doesn't even use letters, just ← and spaces and stuff. @LionsPhil
Among the big automakers, only Ford so far seems willing to meet autoworkers part-way. An agreement with its Canadian workers on pay raises and benefits, as well as the right to strike over closing plants, is a great sign.
GM and Stellantis, this is why you are still faced with rolling stoppages while Ford is not. Time to sit down to talk, then step up to share the bounty with those who made it possible.
@Radical_EgoCom
What? How is this supposed to work? What if someone quits by just not showing up? This is profoundly stupid, beyond insulting, and on top of it all, it's unenforceable (And thank the spirits it is! Otherwise it'd be slavery!).
@Radical_EgoCom
That makes sense! I guess then you'd have to treat them like my boyfriend's last job, which doesn't give references, and not put them as a reference when looking.
@thomasfuchs
AI can definitely be used to perpetrate scams, but the concept of AI is certainly not a scam.
I've used Darknet and a spare PC with an old GPU to make a detector for if my grandma (who has dementia) wanders outside at night. It's already saved her from wandering off more than once, so I think AI certainly has its place! But I don't like what a lot of people are doing with it.
“The idea that profits drove our current bout of #inflation surfaced in the last few years among progressive economists and lawmakers but was waved away by more mainstream types as a "conspiracy theory." That changed earlier this year.”
