I used to really suggest Tidal frequently because they were better for artists than Spotify, if you were into the streaming thing.
Unfortunately, as of today they've retired their Roku app, adding that to their graveyard of supported platforms (along with my digital audio player, my living room hifi streamer, and my tablet)
So I'm left with just my phone (since if I could use the web client, I'd already have access to my media).
FWIW? I don't do file sharing. I still buy on physical media, unless downloads are the only option. I rip music and DVDs myself and hand-curate my digital library, but I keep the physical media.
Same goes for books, except I never got into ebooks much. Tried, but I prefer the feel and smell of a real paper book. Like I said, I'm an old fart.
@jackwilliambell Same, I love buying physical and digital releases from artists, because having been an artist much of my life, I know how much those little emails mean.
I remember when the only way you could fill a tank to get to the next show was to move enough CDs and cassettes and stickers at the current show.

Yes, but have you considered that the people outside this bubble are yelling so loudly I can hear them anyhow, and trying to muffle their voices is the only way to stay sane?
@Longplay_Games Also, the group of people warning of the dangers of bubbles and echochambers seems to have a sizable intersection with the group of people who will gang up screeching and drown out any moderate points of view.
I'm pretty sure I can feed my "I agree so much with this, it'd be a shame if it were unfounded. I wonder what counter arguments I can find" doubts without needing access to that group of people.

Ubuntu is a terrible excuse for a server OS, and ads have no place in tools like apt. Literally taking an upstream tool from Debian and adding ads to it.
Regardless of any amount of insistence to the contrary, #Canonical is becoming enshittified. They just have a little bit of self-awareness -- that's the only reason why it isn't more extreme.
I hear people are panicking about tiktok going away.
Maybe they could suggest their fans follow them to @owncast?
Then they'd be on a platform where they were in control of their content.
I always see people complaining about triple A titles - the content, the price, the spyware-laden DRM, the micro transactions. What I don't see is very many people hyping the small studio games, the solo devs, the games that sit under $10 and have no DRM or micro transactions at all. There's literally thousands of them released every year.
So maybe take that big complaint energy and put it towards encouraging the kind of things you want to see.
TFW you spend all morning learning how to stream levels in #Godot4 to avoid the loading screen between levels and then go check to see how long it takes...

So many folks pushing the universal scene description standard but I can't think of even a single use for it.
glTF 2.0 seems a much better standard to me - it's what I've moved to exclusively.
(I know they're for different use cases - but USD as "an entire scene" is better handled by your engine's native map/level format)
@Longplay_Games in that league, mostly their own engines. There are some public presentations with screenshots and stuff, if you want to invest the time to identify software, but you can probably just google. Bethesda is still using creationkit, afaik, and why not if they are the masters of using it...
@Longplay_Games though some companies started using UE, like cdpr. It's just too many expectations nowadays, so you have to invest decades of time or expect your own people to work for inhumane hours and weekends (talking about AAA+, not indies)
Google really hit 5/5 for me today. Demanded I install the stupid Sony headphone app. I installed it, it couldn't connect to Internet, so it wouldn't start, just the eula lock out screen.
Verified it had network permissions.
Uninstalled, went to rate, can't review/rate.
How the heck do we only have these two crappy mobile options anymore?
