Ok, I decided I needed to do SOMETHING. So I made Slug get up & get some laundry together & hauled 4 loads to the laundry room. Came back, made her get up again & get her bedroom & bathroom trash together. She's "faint & dizzy" from the exertion of that, but I'm the one who actually hauled the shit. (2 full cart trips) Brownies just came out of the oven. I have 50 minutes before I have to go back for the stuff in the dryer.

#Today makes one week since I was literally hit by a car. (minivan, to be exact) I'm still in the hospital trauma unit, but they are hoping to move me to rehab tomorrow or early next week. We're ALL amazed that I'm doing this well. NOT bragging, I'm just surprised. Will confess that I am sick of this damned bed, sleeping on my back, bedpans, and this fkn neck brace. Grateful I'm alive & not in the amount of pain to be expected!

Almost walked out of work this morning after I was asked why I left the window unattended. I had walked across the lobby to turn the lights on out there. (They were still on dim) I was 10 seconds away if anybody had come in.
Apparently I'm supposed to let the bosses know the lights are off so they can call facilities. I literally spent less than a minute walking over & pushing a button that the facilities guys showed me so we wouldn't have to call for something that stupid.

2. Got a ride home with a friend I hadn't seen in 2 years. He was visiting the brass upstairs & caught up with me in the parking lot after work.

3. Mom cooked dinner tonight! Chicken & dumplings, which was perfect for this frigid evening.

Just finished my first PT session. I stood up w/walker, transitioned to wheelchair, rolled myself to bathroom. Stood up with grab bar and was able to change clothes/wash up with assistance. Rolled back out, GOT UP AND WALKED 10 FT BACK TO BED! (w/walker & PT holding gait belt) Now back in bed waiting for lunch. Trainer was thrilled - they weren't expecting much on day 1. 😁

Tonight's #HashtagGames reminded of one of my favorite stories about our beloved Scotty-dog. He was a rescued lab mix & the best pup ever.

Anyway, Mom was rooting through the fridge one night & found a pan of leftover beef stew. Nobody wanted it, but Scotty was dancing in circles, so she gave it to him. "He won't eat the peas" I said. She said they were mixed in & he wouldn't know. 10 minutes later, pan was licked clean...along with the peas piled on the floor next to it!

Well, it finally got me. Had the very faintest of lines for a positive COVID test. I'm not entirely surprised, just disappointed. Trying to look at the bright side - at least I have a week off from work! My Dr reminded me that my willingness to be vaccinated & boosted is why it took me 3 years to get it, despite multiple exposures & my cruddy immune system.

Time to crack open some books, brew some tea, & while away a few hours...

Day 3? Pins & plate successfully in place. Still hurts, but nothing like it was. Sat upright on the side of the bed today,may get to stand with a walker tomorrow. Neck MRI finally done, waiting for results. Everyone is surprised that I'm so calm about all of this. Getting mad can't fix it, and honestly it's not surprising since I'm the poster child for Murphy's Law.

Been transferred to U of L Trauma Unit. Just got back from another round of X-rays & CT scans. Will be having screws put in my pelvis at 6:30, unless the last scan shows a break in my neck. If that happens, the neck gets done first.

Y'all. #Today I can walk 20-30 feet, mostly bathe & get dressed with just a little assistance. I'm sitting up in a wheelchair chair today between sessions because I was sick of being in bed! Dr was just in and my target date for going home is 2/17.

I had to promise not to try to get up & do anything on my own. However, I did not promise not to take the wheelchair for a spin down the hallway...

Things I've learned from my hospital stay:

1. They are VERY concerned about your poop. To the point that they will pump you full of stool softeners & laxatives if they don't think you're going enough. Warm prune juice mixed with melted butter is DISGUSTING

2. You don't realize how painful healing pelvic surgery is until you laugh, cough, or sneeze.

3. They will always manage to come test your blood sugar 1-5 minutes after you've eaten something.

Day 4 in rehab. I'm not allowed to stand & shower, but I've had 2 chair showers and feel SO much better. Still haven't been able to wash my hair as the supply chain is dragging their feet on getting me a replacement cervical collar. The amount of time I can stand & the distance I can walk are increasing daily.
No scheduled PT on weekends, but my therapist gave me some exercises that I can do in my room either seated or in bed.

1. They found a recliner for my room so I can sit up & read/stitch comfortably this weekend instead of being in bed or the wheelchair.

2. Received a beautiful faux orchid & candle from the phone report unit AND 2 of the bosses dropped by with some puzzle magazines for me.

3. The old coot in the room next door challenged me to a wheelchair race.

Good news. Been accepted to rehab & will probably move there for 2 weeks by Friday. The kicker? One of the evaluators recognized my name. He was one of the therapists for my knee surgery. He told the committee that I would absolutely do the work and would probably have to be told to slow down. (Common refrain from those days) Yay?!?
