Stoat, to LGBT

“I’m a middle aged cisgender gay man who has seen all of this before. It sucked growing up with this level of hate in the 80s and 90s, and it’s scary that the UK is becoming increasingly hostile to queer people.”

https://www.vice.com/en/article/3aka9y/leaked-document-exposes-transphobic-draft-guidelines-for-uk-civil-servants

Natasha_Jay,

@Stoat

Indeed ... plus

  • a nothing / uncritical / click bait piece on Kishwer Falkner being interviewed by the Women and Equalities Select Committee in the Guardian today
  • Sarah Jane Baker arrested I heard

Next wave incoming I suspect (big sigh)

Natasha_Jay,

@Stoat
I'm at loss why the Guardian printed that piece at all. It would be more in place in the ToryGraph, with a wrapper around it eulogizing Falkner (and they've printed nothing... )

This next 15 months will be relentless

Well, shit. Apparently the head of the EHRC wants to better distinguish between sex and gender.

The same EHRC that considers it an anomaly that trans women can be on all-women shortlists but trans men can't.

Sometimes the sheer brazenness of it shocks me before the inevitable depression hits. It would be really nice if, occasionally, they could not be the worst version of themselves.

Natasha_Jay,

@patrizia
Even the Torygraph haven't picked this up today (that I've seen), so I'm curious why the Guardian bothered

I'm waiting for the Select Committee minutes to see if anything new was actually said or just Falkner repeating prior nonsense (thankfully I missed the stream of the meeting due to "life")

Just sitting outside recovering with a large glass of Chardonnay after my first ever mammogram. I mean, I don't mind a squeeze, but that was more like a wine press ... plus all the time "relax your body" says the radiographer 🙄

Okay, at least I know the routine next time ie. more stuff not covered in the 'trans 101 manual'. Bottoms up folks ... 🥂

CW: Selfie, direct eye contact

Natasha_Jay,

@IzabelaKaramia
Smashed and sliced, with some contortionism is about right. Definitely wasn't on my trans bucket list but was interesting!

Natasha_Jay,

@recently_coco
Age 50+ (maybe 40+), family risk profile, genetics, added risk on prog. I was advised to get one and they're free in the UK ...

Natasha_Jay,

@uitvreter
... a 🍾 and slumps over the machine 😂

Can relax after, it's like a robot X-ray machine and a radiographer who 'contortions' your body to get the best pic. So weird..

Natasha_Jay,

@LisaDiFalco1 The next one will be fine. It was all a bit of an unknown, but I guess I'm hardly alone in that ...

Natasha_Jay,

@cade "Taking charge" is simply because of having a very suppportive GP tbh? 💜 That's the real healthcare lesson I do feel right now ... my gender marker was changed with the NHS earlier this year, and it's an automated invite at 50

I cannot deny a big big temptation this morning to cancel or postpone this ... but yeah ...my mother's side has "history" so I went and did it. Phew, done 🤷‍♀️

Next time no problems, now I know how it all works, the routine (never expected this 2 years ago ofc ... you go with the flow) I wish TERFs would even try to understand trans people

Natasha_Jay,

@Tilly
Yes, that's exactly right... plus an feeling as one is connected to ones body one should look after it

@LisaDiFalco1

The Guardian: "Crows and magpies using anti-bird spikes to build nests, researchers find"

[ Comment: Loved that birds are so smart and adaptable too - maybe we should stop using the term 'birdbrain' here? :birdsite: ]

"Nests recovered from trees in Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Antwerp in Belgium were found to be constructed almost entirely from strips of long metal spikes that are often attached to buildings to deter birds from setting up home on the structures.

“Kees Moeliker, the director of the Natural History Museum Rotterdam ...'I didn’t expect this. These anti-bird spikes are meant to deter birds, they are supposed to scare them off, but on the contrary, the birds just utilise them.'”

Anyone who followed the now dismissed UK General Medical Council (GMC) case against Helen, who set up @GenderGP (the only Informed Consent available in the UK, via an offshore model) in detail will know what an arduous sh*t-flinging exercise that was. Only respect ... :heart_trans:

"Doctor who gave puberty blockers to children nominated for ITV-backed diversity award. Helen Webberley has been put forward as a positive role LGBT role model in face of trans row criticism"

UK Telegraph, so typical transphobic dogwhistles and nonsense. But regardless:

Stoat, to random

This "BBC Presenter" story isn't passing the sniff test for me. Think it's blackmail at this point tbh.

Natasha_Jay,

@Stoat
Definitely wondering (after Schofield) how much this would have been "talked up" if it had been an 18 year old girl ... a lot yes ofc (!!) but to the extent of ... apparently "“suffering from serious mental health issues” and is now “receiving in-patient hospital care where he will stay for the foreseeable future”. For facing up to being maybe gay or bi? Am I being harsh?

Regardless we'd agree 1000% the S*n is total scum, and social media and many other people are not better. This stinks

Natasha_Jay, to mastodon

Per this Mastodon app on Windows Store you've all been classified as PEGI-18 for "Extreme Violence" because "Users Interact"

Must be all that interaction on cat pics or something ...

Natasha_Jay,

@sashag
Just downloading a trial on my Win 10 Mobile phone to find out if it's true or not 😂

Natasha_Jay,

@thatfrisiangirlish
Oh yes! In fact it's PEGI-21 in Germany I see now 😮

Natasha_Jay,

@GlasWolf No you're safe. But it does show everything in about font size 96 (no UI settings) so the extreme violence is on my eyes 😵

Just seeing if it even works now tbh!

Natasha_Jay,

@evelyn
"Extreme Violence 2: Users are nice and considerate"

Niche market, but hopefully a growing one

Natasha_Jay,

@alexpostfacto
It's really dreadful, but it does work on my old Windows Phone lol. In a very very basic way, and an unbelievably bad UI

Natasha_Jay, (edited ) to tech

Not showing my age or anything, but as a kid a Kodak Carousel 600 was what we meant by 'multimedia' tech ... am I alone? Except the word multimedia didn't exist 'back in the day' of course, so this was the equivalent of VR goggles

It was designed to be brought out for Xmas and holidays, and to torture the neighbours with holiday snaps

Monty Python "Four Yorkshiremen" mode /on/

  • MP: But you try and tell the young people today that, and they won't believe ya'.
  • ALL: Nope, nope /off/

Bit worried it's (now) listed in "The Internet Antique Shop - TIAS" ... like what does that make me then? 😂

Well an over-estronated & renovated trans witch I guess ... 🤣

Natasha_Jay,

@brunogirin @eliza
I still love the textuality of clicks and ker-chunks in my tech. Except if it's a hard-drive of course!!

Natasha_Jay,

@thatfrisiangirlish Let us exchange knowledge when we meet then lol - you bring the whisky, I'll bring something decent and red (it was a phase, okay?)

Last time I drank whisky was with a Korean in the late 1990s (a bottle over a meal, omg) and I'm still recovering from the memory in the 2020s ... do not go glass-for-glass with Koreans!

Soju is almost as bad tbh

Natasha_Jay, (edited )

@Almandine Kind of. I guess my "IT" area of ERP is more a combo of a business knowledge domain and application functionality. I saw it go from char-mode (early 90s) on a VT220 terminal to heavy client-server (1997) to slim client-server and Citrix (early 00s) to web-applet (2010) and recently into the Cloud

Will I go back? Dunno, focussed on my own changes for a bit

But yeah back in the 90s I could install the DB and App on a Unix clone personally, customise it on demand, and run business training. Zero OO stuff, all logic was built in at an application level, zero middleware, the DB was a pure data repositary

My, how things have changed!!

Natasha_Jay,

@eljay As a kid, this was a treat, but I still remember aged 10(ish) the glazed-over expressions of neighbours on holiday snaps

Lol on Egypt vs Las Vegas! 😂

Natasha_Jay,

@thatfrisiangirlish
Lesson 1 - don't mix drinks, and I'm okay
Lesson 2 - don't drink glass-for-glass with Koreans per their drinking etiquette, they'll kill you

My only saving grace is the one night I tried that on Soju, even if it did nearly kill me, I staggered to the taxi whereas the older American I was with, slumped over the table and was (literally) carried by three to his taxi! 😂

It was a while ago ... decades even

The clumsy dual Mastodon/Twitter client Flantter, which still works, appears to have been removed from the Windows Store. This means if you don't already have it on your Windows Phone, you're screwed.

RIP Mastodon on Windows Phone.

#windowsphone #flantter

Natasha_Jay,

@sinjut
I still have the last version 3.3.1.0 + neutral appxbundle installer... just in case there's anyone who needs it

It works, but I'm getting a JSON .NET error on boosts and favorites, which I suspect is a dependency issue with Win 10 Mobile 1709
