As a follow-up on something @Elodie_lyra tooted, I logged an FOI on why the UK Land Registry would ask for a GRC on gender change, but won't accept a UK Passport (as would seem logical)

** I just got a reply back saying HMLR is now reviewing this:**

Coincidence?

FOI QUESTION:
"... the processes are duplicated:
a. One needs the same requirements for name change ie a UK Deed Poll, or a Statutory Declaration
b. Changing Gender on a UK Passport has exactly the same process as the Land Registry and can be done simply via a GP/doctor letter

REPLY:
"Our searches have not revealed any recorded information held in relation to why a UK Passport is not included as accepted evidence of change of gender, however, HMLR is in the process of reviewing the Change of gender (CNG) form. This will include a review of the current evidence options required in panel 2 of the form, and consideration will be given to whether this can be extended to include a valid UK Passport"

I don't know regarding how the EA 2010 applies here (or why it is seemingly disapplied, right?) Given they are doing a review a few letters to them might be helpful at this time but it needs a lawyer, so yes @AMereSolicitor or Robin Moira White or ...

Natasha_Jay,

@essjay
Totally. We'd also want to look at how gender is recorded from source on HM Land Registry entries too then. I had a quicklook only before and it seemed opaque. It probably happens via legal conveyancing transactions

@AMereSolicitor @Elodie_lyra

Natasha_Jay,

@Stoat Definitely wondering if the FOI I has triggered a sudden need for a review 😂

They took a looooooooong time to answer a pretty straightford (if quite legal/technical in nature) question or two

** GlitchSoc new features on tech.lgbt ** Oooo ... nice to see that we have a couple of useful new features: any weird looking posts in the next week may be me playing around with:

Also I see GlitchSoc has:

  • Local-server only posts

Comment: I do still love [ for it's migration of posting history and 'Antennae', but for now at least have realised I'll wait until mobile :android: App supports it fully - which is supposed to be coming. Fedilab is so feature-rich ...]

Natasha_Jay,

@ellieraeuk
Thanks! It was strange having so many posts collapsed. I'm still playing around the the new settings ...

    +1000 and absolutely. Step-by-step. At one's own pace. Try never to take a backwards step. Pauses and rests are allowed, in fact normal

    And the strength? As others have said, magically it is there ...

    Trans folk rapidly learn to 'clock' people around us too eg. do you ... ?

    1. Tolerate us (as trans) ... or
    2. Accept us or
    3. Affirm us or
    4. Cherish us

    The true cherishers we find on the way are so 💖 💜 that we will never ever forget you and always return the feeling

    Natasha_Jay,

    @AnhedonicHedonist Two year mark even ... I don't mind being clocked, and will self-identity as trans in a few situations where I seek safety. It's the reaction after that point counts that counts imho ...

    Natasha_Jay,

    @terraboop Totally! I didn't go there and btw ...

    -3. family who disown us

    Natasha_Jay,

    @terraboop The difference being that as trans we judge on the real-life 1-2-1 reactions and actions, not on someone's mere existence? But yes, the scale goes both ways ofc

    Natasha_Jay,

    @deadbeefmonster @Wrewdison
    💜 This is the first online 'space' I've been in (here since last Nov) that trans folk are so amazingly integrated ie part of the picture, not under attack, feeling safe, don't have to hide behing blocklists or enclaves, a possibilty to flourish etc - so I feel generally cherished here in the Fedi

    And if you assume any openly trans person you meet irl is brave-as-f*ck well yeah, it's true!!

    Natasha_Jay,

    @PeacefulEdna There's a lot of narrative we need to revert/reverse I can feel

    But we do. We 'clock' the transphobes (out of self-defense) as an avoidance mevchanism too

    Natasha_Jay,

    @PeacefulEdna The "cherish" is never mentioned but it's wonderful, right? One knows it ...

    Yesterday: I posted about the UK far-right conservatives "... at a guess, I suspect Miriam Cates could be their next figurehead, but let's see"

    https://tech.lgbt/@Natasha_Jay/110646348678235232

    So that was some tea-leaf 🌿 reading as today: we see Miriam Cates MP all over the press with the "New Conservatives" (a statement by her was played on LBC radio when I was driving).

    Comment: She and co-lead Danny Kruger MP are both evangelical christians, as is Steve Baker MP

    https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/jul/03/tory-group-warns-sunak-he-risks-losing-election-if-he-doesnt-cut-net-migration

    > "New Conservatives such as Miriam Cates also say large number of (immigration) arrivals risks damaging UK’s cultural security"

    Comment: From this splintering and "noise", we can see jostling for the post General Election Tory party leadership / influence and power grabs already being made (they know they are out of power ofc)

    And what could "cultural security" be other than racism dressed-up?

    Natasha_Jay,

    @anathema It would be helpful if they could do just a little 'join-the-dots' like this and call stuff like "cultural security" out, but no ofc

    MSM critical political analysis seems almost dead now ... decent commentators are all "indie" and have their own substacks these days

    Natasha_Jay, (edited )

    @Stoat I mean they're bastards right? My political reads and antennae are (tbh) self-survival mechanism as trans now (post Mordaunt last year!) to understand what's going on

    The clique-y infighting of the far-right suggests Badenoch is drifting outside their sphere of influence which tbh would help us a little

    This "New Conservative" lot are being called out (even by Tom Swarbrick on LBC!) as heartless chancers as basically we need Carers in the UK, and there's no short-term, solution if you cut the immigration feed

    Natasha_Jay,

    @Stoat Let's do a pre-predictions thread (on seat numbers) a few weeks out ... and then yes!! Lol

    There'll be a high percentage of "vote-them-out" tactical voting (I will be doing this) and the LibDems, Scotland and Reform UK are all players

    Imo this kind of "New Conservatives" clique are also trying to to swallow up the Reform UK "nutter-vote" as a defense mechansm in the red-wall seats ...

    Natasha_Jay,

    @Stoat They swept in a looney fringe under Brexit via Johnson. Hopefully they get destroyed in the red-wall by Labour and traditional seats by the Libdems ... now they just look in factional chaos if Miriam Cates gets press coverage

    Natasha_Jay,

    @zo
    It says a lot if I say I'd rather Badenoch than Miriam Cates as Women's and Equalities Minister. Badenoch knows her role is to generate anti-trans dogwhistles, Cates might try and do something ...

    They are getting so desperate now, I don't rule anything out pre-election but they've run out of time to legislate anything serious like changing the EA 2010 (crosses fingers)

    @Stoat

    Gender Incongruence - Part 2: "Any distress which might occur is most likely due to other people's adverse reactions to the trans person's situation or their inability to access the care they desire. Unless there are accompanying psychological problems, there is no sense in which being trans is a mental illness.

    "Yet, to obtain the desired medical treatment, most trans people must sacrifice their sanity to the like of psychiatrists and clinical psychologists who are presumed to be expert ... in most cases these specialists are gatekeepers so that surgeons who perform surgeries and other medical procedures for trans people can be legally protected."

    I’ve heard people talking about different mobile clients for mastodon and how the official one isn’t the best one out there, what do y’all recommend instead?

    Natasha_Jay,

    @salsagal
    iOS or Android?

    If Android then certainly Fedilab is the most feature-laden by far, after than I'd recommend Tusky

    Steve Baker withdraws support for Braverman over grooming gangs rhetoric, says ally

    https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/jul/02/steve-baker-withdraws-support-for-suella-braverman-over-grooming-gangs-rhetoric-says-ally

    > ... it is understood Baker has decided he would not back Braverman again because of serious concerns over the way she has approached the issue of so-called grooming gangs

    Comment: If true, I'd read this as significant going forward. Steve Baker is probably the Conservative far-right's quiet kingmaker. He's senior in the ERG Hard Brexit group, and an evangelical ie. very socially conservative ... at a guess, I suspect Miriam Cates could be their next figurehead, but let's see

    Natasha_Jay, to TwitterMigration

    The way I can tell the wider world out there doesn't see Mastodon as a Twitter replacement now is that I don't see any posts that read like a cut-paste from LinkedIn these days ... just from professors, furries, archelogists, trans folk, game developers, musicians, artists etc

    You know - interesting people?

    Natasha_Jay,

    Haven't seen any advertising executives or marketing managers joining up for sure!
