@Roofhare@mastodon.social

Hi, I am Kees de Groot. I play #guitar, or maybe unguitar. You can find some of my #music here: https://roofhare.bandcamp.com/ I am interested in meeting other music makers, but also #artists of any inclination. By day, I am a mathematics #TeacherEducator at a #ResearchUniversity in the northeast of the US. I am a #DutchAmerican, if that is something. I occasionally will post in #Dutch. I am okay with Deutch and Franรงais, if that is easier for you. Into #sourdough baking recently. Fun!

Feeling discouraged. I have so much work; really good completed songs. They are really good. I believe in them. Getting them out into the world in a presentable form is scary and hard. :BlobhajShock:

Roofhare,
@Roofhare@mastodon.social avatar

@ambergrey I kept the tracks of my "Please Stand Here" album on ice for almost two years. I did not release it until I was ready for it. Take your time. It is okay ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Roofhare,
@Roofhare@mastodon.social avatar

@ambergrey Most welcome. I needed some distance from my work so I could listen to it with fresh ears and heart and build a new relationship with it. Then I had it mastered by a good friend. I've always done my own mastering. But that was the magic trick for me. enjoy the process.

@ottaross@mastodon.social avatar

Are you a tea fan? Have you tried pu-erh? It comes loose or in compressed cakes of various sizes.

I've been noticing over the years that I enjoy it on the second infusion even more than the first. It brews up nice and dark on the second pass too, with a rich earthy flavour that just borders on mocha.

Roofhare,
@Roofhare@mastodon.social avatar

@ottaross It seems high in caffeine.Does that affect you in anyway? Interesting that the leaves are fermented. I like black teas, such as souchongs but have been drinking more green teas as they make me less jittery.

Roofhare,
@Roofhare@mastodon.social avatar

@ottaross that makes a lot of sense. I often do a second infusion of my green teas and that is quite nice as well. I may try some of this tea. I get my teas from Upton Tea company. Any you would recommend from here: https://www.uptontea.com/search.aspx?ss=Pu

Roofhare,
@Roofhare@mastodon.social avatar

@ottaross Thanks! I will certainly try some. Cheers.

I'm haunted by a big jar of imported Bulgarian peaches I saw at the grocery store today.

1.7 litres of peeled halved peaches, for just under six bucks, that clearly, desperately want to be pie, and I abandoned them. What kind of monster am I?

Roofhare,
@Roofhare@mastodon.social avatar

@ottaross You seem quite keen on these peaches. Peachy keen, as they say.

The existence of dumplings implies the existence of larger, precursor dumples.

Why are they hiding them from us and what do I need to do to get some?

Roofhare,
@Roofhare@mastodon.social avatar

@ottaross they may be in the dumps?

Supposedly someone in Kentucky using Chrome on Windows is trying to log into my LinkedIn account.

First, I'm sorry you are in Kentucky, and have to use Windows... at least dump Chrome for Firefox, and what the hell are you gonna do with my LinkedIn account? Get me a new job!?

Roofhare,
@Roofhare@mastodon.social avatar

@rasterweb I do not recommend using log in to. People might ask where the log goes in to. They are probably the mathematicians among us.

Very happy with both the crumb and taste of this . Used the basic country bread recipe of the book Tartine Bread by Chad Robertson. Made with home milled strong white wheat - whole wheat levain, strong white wheat and wholewheat flour. 75% hydration.

Doing a bit of chord-similarity analysis this morning, I might even use this table for finding fun substitutions

https://homophony.quest/blog/22_1_22_24_chord_similarity/

Roofhare,
@Roofhare@mastodon.social avatar

@MattCrumpLab Could you do a comparison using the magnitude of the vectors, next to the cosine comparison?
It may be interesting to use such a comparison criterion for arranging chords from strongest to weakest e.g. and then have the length (measures) determined by the magnitude.
Fun read. Thanks for sharing.

    Installed Bitwig Studio 5.1 today. Going to explore the basic stuff today, like using VST plugins, effects and my MIDI controller. And if all goes well I might record an improvisation session with ambient bass guitar today.

    @Roofhare@mastodon.social avatar

    @CrowsLabyrinth You did it! Enjoy!

    @CrowsLabyrinth You may want to follow @polarity who is a contributor and very knowledgeable about Bitwig.

    @CrowsLabyrinth @polarity BTW, you talked me into renewing my license one more timeโ€ฆ So far been playing with the Polymer instrument and I am having some fun with that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Still haven't decided if I want to get Ableton Live or Bitwig Studio for my live improvisation sessions.

    I planned to spend time this week to explore Bitwig. I already looked at Ableton Live a while ago.

    Any thoughts here on this from the perspective of guitarists/bassists that play ambient?

    Roofhare,
    @Roofhare@mastodon.social avatar

    @CrowsLabyrinth Consider that your entry fee. After that you get a once a year subscription of around 170 to get the updates. I stopped at version 3.something and it is still running under the latest Mac OS. @triumcirculorum is a big fan of Bitwig and he can tell you more about how the subscription works and if it is worth it from his perspective.

    Roofhare,
    @Roofhare@mastodon.social avatar

    @CrowsLabyrinth @triumcirculorum until it does not work anymore with the latest operating system.
    I do have one dedicated laptop that I donโ€™t upgrade the anymore. I use that for live situations. I have both Bitwig and Live running on it.
    I plan on getting one more update for Live on my desktop/recording iMac. And then leave it at that as well. You are right, I donโ€™t really need 99.99% of the upgrades. So maybe Bitwig will work well for you. BTW, it was created by folks who split off of Ableton.

    Roofhare,
    @Roofhare@mastodon.social avatar

    @CrowsLabyrinth @triumcirculorum Yes, I agree. Going with Windows probably puts you in a much better position. I am sure that is what Martin uses as well. Hopefully heโ€™ll have a moment to chime in as he is much more expert with Bitwig than I can ever dream of being.
