@samwho Because we all love feature creep...........
Have you considered adding the Ascii in each box too for easy lookup characters that things don't like pasting?
@kabrams i think we can reduce the need for cars a lot (free public transport, more reliable and easier delivery services, more things within walking distance etc) but I don't think anybody can credibility say we can get of vehicles completely. Getting smaller electric cars and smaller alternatives to cars that take up less of room and are cheeper and easier to handle are going to have to be part of the solution.
An important part of the usual answer I give to the question of why I've preferred to work remotely for the past decade is that my partner's post-PhD job prospects may involve moving abroad (and to the US in particular) and that me being less dependent on working on-location makes the uprooting process less complicated.
It's not that I want to move to the US but not losing my source of income in the process would be a plus.
@alda At this point i'm not sure why anyone would want to move to the US, at least that shouldn't be anyones first choice unless and needing to do so for a very specific job is about the only explination that is justifiable.
@trixter the thing is, they included wingwolf mode as an official 7th mode. They could have just forgot about the sub mode and left him evened out as a six changer.
Alternativly there is an unofficial base mode that they could have made official instead.
I had this weird vivid dream about being back in school and everyone being really horny all the time.
Except for this one guy who was angry that I wasn't failing despite not doing much homework and him spending every waking hours outside of school on said homework.
So, wider Icelandic society just found out that the glorified founder of the local YMCA, who also started a Scout organisation and two youth sports clubs in the early 20th century, who also happened to be a clergyman and was "fond of little boys" and kept a life-sized wood carved statue of a naked boy in his bedroom — happened to be an active paedophile as well.
How this has remained unknown or generally not spoken about until the year 2023 is beyond me.
@alda people don't wany to believe that people in positions of trust do this stuff and seam to ignore all the evidence that people get themselves into these positions of trust specifically to do this stuff
@foone Dual CPU is always fun, add a Z80 and give them a seperate 64k of shared ram on top of the whatever the x86 has to play with
Actually how about 3 CPUs? Throw in a 680x0 too
As a longtime handheld gaming fan, I'm fascinated by the sudden influx of "handheld gaming PCs" like the Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go, etc. -- but I worry about futureproofing on anything that's not playing games specifically designed for it. I can pop a Tetris cart in my GBC and load it right up. How well will those handheld PCs stand up in 5-10 years? #HandheldGaming
@trixter Given they're just like other low spec PCs it's going to depends on what yoyr expecting to play, how slow your willing to put up with and how the OS fairs. I doubt most people are going to use them after 5 years unless they're realy into low spec gaming though.
Remember people who has bought way too much of old-timey leftist rhetoric:
"Labor" is not what it used to be.
Many "white collar" jobs are paying less than a lot of traditional "labor" jobs. A welder these days probably earn quite much more than say a computer support technician.
The people you see having two cars and a house? They're just as likely a plumber or electrician than a person sitting in front of a computer all day.
@WhyNotZoidberg Family with 2+ cars now just means that 2+ people need a car to commute to work because everybody has to work these days, local jobs have been destroyed and public transport is a joke that is basically a tax on the poorest people
@WhyNotZoidberg It looked good but was just punishingly hard with no reward. The only thing that really made me play it was the music and that was top tier to be fair
Reading some comments, it's clear beliefs are stickier than evidence.
There's a contingent of numbskulls who simply cannot (will not?) make the effort to envision a future in which this is scaled up. Trying to find a way to deal with that is one of the great challenges of our time.
@TechConnectify I just keep remembering that we've had EVs that didn't need battaries for over 100 years https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trolleybus
It was at least viable enough for public transport and could be scaled up for things like lorries.
At least part of the solution to battaries is simply to have less.
Alas, people don't seam to like investing in infrastructure anymore.
@agilealliance is one of the software development related orgs that are going to hold large conferences in Florida this year regardless of trans people's presence in the state being illegal.
@alda@agilealliance list of groups of people who are not safe in Florida is getting pretty high now. Is anyone but rich cishet white guys actually welcome? And even they should be worried about the volume of shootings
