@textfiles Then your file "Generated AI art made by spammers" and my file "Every junk fax received by the Walt Disney Company Enterprise IT Risk Management fax machine, Glendale, CA, 7/17/2007-12/5/2008" can get married
@pluralistic I have a fun mystery for the Cory-nauts.
Don Joyce of Negativland liked to tape Art Bell. I found a show where Art is talking to Whitley Streiber (“Communion”) and taking calls when something strange happens: every 45 seconds, they start hearing a phone auto-dialer.
Art is flummoxed: “Somebody's breaking in on our line…this last half hour is the most puzzling I've ever done on radio.”
I checked the phone tones and the number is: 1-800-468-3445
@garygouldsberry@pluralistic It's actually an open reel, from a giant collection of open reels that as their archivist I am now digitizing. These reels mostly contain raw material Don taped off radio & TV which later appeard on "Over the Edge" or the albums. There's about 250 reels & after four months I'm almost half done
@garygouldsberry@pluralistic These are primarily for Negativland to spelunk for use in upcoming live shows & albums, but they may be released publicly at some point. And I must give a shout-out to Tim Maloney, Negativland's OTHER archivist, who digitized the complete Over the Edge archive and is the reason it's on Internet Archive today!
Gilbert Shelton/Hub City Movers "Set Your Chickens Free"
long shot - anyone have a better recording/transfer of THIS version (the original) of this song - not any of the other fine versions out there, lovely as they are. If so, please share in whatever format you can, thx
(lyricist Gilbert Shelton is the creator/artist of the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, but they have nothing to do with this song really)
@pluralistic HA, I went for a walk ten minutes ago & saw the same toilet & at least that very visible winding curve on the outside got me thinking about fluid dynamics, and prompted me to Google the S-bend. #TheTeachingToilet
#NowPlaying - on my way back to coherence, hopefully, indicated by the thought that i would like to acquire the "happy together" single (in mono) & play it over & over & over & over & over & over. @vinylrecords
@tdriley@pluralistic Someday the timing will be exactly right for me to stand at the corner of some urban intersection with a pair of pliers and very carefully remove EVERY STAPLE from a telephone pole. It won't just be OCD. It'll be useful work! 😅
@sidereal@pluralistic@mttaggart@neurovagrant I think I just figured out the use case for AI - it's strictly for entertainment purposes. Accuracy: nil. Reliability: nil. But wow, what results! AI is a psychic hotline.
this is interesting: ❝ We are very proud to say that Deepgrooves is now the only vinyl pressing plant in the world that produces CO2(e) neutral … ❞ → https://deepgrooves.eu/ecofriendlyvinyl/
I would love to hear some thoughts on the reality of this from those more versed in the topic than me
Chef's kiss to the Hacker News poster responding to the link to Cabel's blog entry about DAK Catalog, saying "These should be scanned and put online somewhere."
@textfiles Was an O.G. DAK catalog reader in the 1980s. The way every one of his essays started with with the phrase "It's [different adjective suggesting exasperation]" was mesmerizing.
@catsalad "As you know in the recent economic downturn we've had to make some difficult choices. But one stands above all others. It is: Feed me, or do not feed me... So...what is your response?"
