@TomMarcinko@pluralistic
I think it's safe to assume time exists, because otherwise we wouldn't have nuclear isotopes. They'd all all have decayed at once, without time.
@indianaj989@pluralistic Unbearable. 😖
This is exactly why I have been saying for years that as soon as my son graduates HS, I will be going to a solar day. Getting up by the sun, no work after dark.
Only one more school year to go after this!
@pluralistic@indianaj989 I remember reading a book about Industrial History written ca. 1890. The writer opined about the difficulty of getting workers to the factory on time “for those were the days of the spontaneous street dance”.
@pluralistic
It all starts with what I call "the tyranny of the school bell" - and then it never lets up till you retire or die (whichever comes first).
@RickGaehl@pluralistic Time is a measuring tool that rich people with plenty of leisure time use to tell poor people with no leisure time exactly how lazy the poor are
“ During the evening of the first skirmishes, it turned out that the clock-towers were shot at independently and simultaneously in several places in Paris.”
@unikitty@pluralistic
Yup - first they used it to erase local differences and natural rhythms in England, and then they exported all the colonising tricks they'd developed here to the wider world. 🙄
@tdriley@pluralistic Someday the timing will be exactly right for me to stand at the corner of some urban intersection with a pair of pliers and very carefully remove EVERY STAPLE from a telephone pole. It won't just be OCD. It'll be useful work! 😅
@zenheathen@pluralistic “Time is a river that sweeps me along, but I am the river; it is a tiger that mangles me, but I am the tiger; it is a fire that consumes me, but I am the fire.” (Borges)
@pluralistic This is basically the exact opposite of a proposal I saw a few years ago to switch to an 8 day week, with one of the key benefits being that Christmas would always be at the weekend so we wouldn't need to have time off work for it
@pluralistic You seek to abholish time as part of an anarchist project to free all living things from the tyranny of the clock. I seek to abholish time in order to reach immortality. We are not the same. /s
