Newly recovered and digitized (not by me) of a 1986 hacking meetup called TELEPUB. This tape features piles of speaking by Cheshire Catalyst (RIP).

@dasharez0ne heard about japanese bus drivers who were on strike and kept the busses running without accepting fares; keeping things moving and helping people while costing their employer gasoline and uncollected fares. Love that energy.
Doing my part by ringing up expensive orders for free so people can get stuff not on amazon and stupid company is out money same as if i didn't work. Strikes are fun!

If companies want to deal with efficiency, instead of chasing people into the office they should ask Microsoft for this M365 feature suggestion:

you set an average cost per employee hour, then at the end of the meeting in Teams it displays how much the meeting cost in $ based on number of attendees and time they attended, and asks each attendee to rate if it was worth it - ie if something meaningful happened.

Anonymised stats dashboard to show cost of meetings vs benefit.

@GossiTheDog i feel that running microsoft office 95 forever is the all-around better option.

Unity’s license change not only screws their customers, but the larger ecosystems

Now everyone needs to put guardrails in place against a greedy executive that might want to double tax you

The only way to stop this cancer from spreading is for it to fail abysmally

Do your part

SnepperStepper,
@SnepperStepper@mastodon.social avatar

@Migueldeicaza companies stop making stupid decisions that obviously screw themselves over and ruin their niche and good will for no reason challenge (impossible)

Anime fans must be so glad physical stores aren't necessary anymore.

Imagine having to go up to a clerk and asking "yes hello do you have the latest edition of 'I can't believe I got fucked up by a truck and died and got reincarnated in a magical world where I am a level 1 final boss but I'm over powered anyway due to my ridiculous passive skills'?

...sir?"

SnepperStepper,
@SnepperStepper@mastodon.social avatar

@SirTapTap ngl i think that would be a very fun experience now, because either they're so unphased because they get asked for weird stuff all the time, or you get the grin and wink because they're into even weirder stuff and bam you just made a friend.

Connected cars are a “privacy nightmare,” Mozilla Foundation says

Data privacy protections are almost nonexistent when it comes to automobiles.

Actually secret police. They aren't even pretending to not be fascist anymore

SnepperStepper,
@SnepperStepper@mastodon.social avatar

@Radical_EgoCom that's obviously someone pretending to be a cop. Pretending to be a cop is illegal especially if they are then carrying out the acts of cops. In other words, that case was out the window before it even hit the judge's desk.
Dashcam front and rear is admissible and proves the cop did not identify themself thereby making any tickets and charges void. Know how to protect yourself.

If your human factors team designs a safety system that requires operators to be paying close attention 100% of the time, they're only pretending to design a system to keep humans safe. I think the same is true of LLM-generated code: if you're assuming people will review it all carefully before putting it into production, I think the real purpose of your process & procedures is to keep the blame off the AI.

SnepperStepper,
@SnepperStepper@mastodon.social avatar

@gvwilson there's a reason AI actually stands for Automated Idiocy.

@georgetakei Hey wait a minute- wasn't the whole AI replacing writers thing the reason we're on strike? They think they can pay the talent less because a computer program can spit out dirivitive works with stuff it stole?
We can just write our own!

Jesus said love thy sisters like you love thy brothers and the downtrodden agreed. Who wence was a brother become a sister and sister become brother. Love is the Lord's greatest gift and thou must share it freely. Bethany 16:50

@georgetakei next thing you know they're going to try to cancel General Mills for having big hot tiger dad Tony on their boxes. These people need to chill out and get a hobby instead of perpetuating this nonsense. Tbh, they'd probably learn a thing or two from Star Trek about how life is a journey of discovery and not of conflict and the people you meet and love are as varied, diverse and individual as the places you discover.

My heart goes out to Billy and all my fellow actors, especially those still earning subsidence wages. The studio executives have much to answer for. And they could end this pain tomorrow.

SnepperStepper,
@SnepperStepper@mastodon.social avatar

@georgetakei its asinine they put us through this. You know what would make them tremble? With everything we have nowadays, we could make our own movies with our own stories that blow the oatmeal hollywood's been spewing out of the water. You remember the set of the Original Star Trek- how much effort would it be to put that kind of set together with several packs of water bottles and a dozen large pizzas? Authenticity sells...... heck, I'll print the tapes for free!
