I had a boss once who was also a landlord, who casually mentioned that she was raising her tenants' rent, not because her costs had gone up, but because other local rent had gone up, so she "had to".

Homelessness is a function of housing prices. The math is frighteningly simple. It's not a moral failing, but you know what is? Profit taking from rent hikes. That's an evil act. We should treat it like burning a house down for money.

So many wildflowers out there right now. But all that pollen and nectar doesn't come without risk. Crab spiders are expert pollinator predators, blending in with flowers and ambushing hungry bees and flies. This one caught a whopper.

Fly fact of the day: Some adult flies produce silk.
Silk is a very common protein fiber to produce, shared by a lot of arthropods, so I'm not so surprised when I learn of another insect that can produce it.
But still, it's pretty cool.
Some male flies in family Empidae wrap gifts for females in silk produced in their legs.
