Mine is a screenshot from my favorite video game of all time, Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar, released on September 16th, 1985.

It's a game I've put thousands of hours into, both back when it was originally released and still to this very day.

@cliffwade In some ways graphical fidelity isn't important to me, but in another there is only so far I'm prepared to regress.

I'm in a terrible rut where games are concerned, there is nothing I want to play or risk my steam credit buying.

I would say the 'ugliest' game I've considered playing of late is Dwarf Fortress.

Not always the case, though. FTL isn't a visually stunning game but it is a great game. Project Zomboid isn't a looker but I play that too. I guess we all have our limit.

@cliffwade I used to love Counter-strike but I've not really played competitive shooters (with the exception of DayZ) for quite some time so that rules out fortnight. I've heard too many bad tales about Destiny to try them.

I was initially sceptical because I love the original A LOT and so this has a lot to live up to. I'm going to go into it hoping it's as good as Paddington because there is simply no way it can be as good as the original Willy Wonka, if for no other reason than the fact it doesn't have the screen legend that is Gene Wilder.

@EighthLayer Yup. The budget these monstrosities get too. Imagine all the well written stories with terrific unknown actors that don't get green-lit because of lack of funds and we have drivel like this coming out seemingly every other week.

Frank Herbert's Dune (SyFy Channel Mini Series)

In an alternate reality, I'd be watching Denis Villeneuve's Dune Part II, but instead, I've enjoyed the often overlooked SyFy Channel mini-series. While it may have limited FX resources, the costumes, like the Guild Navigators pictured below, are impressive. Moreover, it skillfully conveys the intricacies of the Dune narrative. I strongly recommend it for fellow Dune enthusiasts looking to satisfy their cravings!

@MrTuesday I thought it was really good. What we need is something like the production quality of Dune (Villeneuve film) but woven into a TV miniseries to fully explore the book and to do its twisting plot and politics justice.

As you say, I thought the production quality of the TV series was excellent for what must've been a limited budget.

Also, ignore all the books after the first. They're trash, in my opinion at least.

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds I didn't even pick up upon any homophobia, not saying you're wrong but I was more concerned by the contrivances (like Duncan being reborn a ghoul) and the general issue that it just felt very silly. It felt like he didn't know when to stick a pin in a very good story.

Game companies and publishers are not exempt from criticism.

If their games are released unfinished or they are greedy then players should express their discontent. Ideally, by voting with their wallet.

The aforementioned do not need your protection. They're not defenseless, they have PR departments. Do not attack fellow gamers for expressing opinions which differ from your own.
