@DJDarren its really hard to eat the 'proper' amount when our enteroception (read: ability to hear the signals our body sends about pain, tired, hungry, full etc) is so poor.
About 80% of being late-diagnosed neurodivergent is finding out that we're not horrible fuckups who lack the willpower to function like the normies, our brains just run on different firmware and we were never taught how deal with that.
Does anybody else know why so many cis people are blissfully unaware of the anti-trans laws that are passing in the US and the increase in anti-trans hate?
Among people I meet day to day, friends and former coworkers, and my family, I keep finding cis people surprised when I tell them that there are now anti-trans laws on the books in like half the states and when I explain the proposed or current law in their state. Heck, a lot of folks also unaware of the high rate of anti-trans violence even in Southern California. Some of them look really disturbed when I explain how trans people using the bathroom in Florida is effectively a crime now.
These are people who are ostensibly allies and are just completely unaware. I understand some people don't follow the news much. I get that people aren't as likely to follow news that doesn't directly affect them. But how is there this big a blind spot in most of the population when it's a main talking point of one of only two major parties?
@JoscelynTransient in my experience people just assume Im over reacting or exaggerating and do their best to not think about how their neighbors really are actually fascist monsters who want us dead.
My experience with mastodon servers has been about on par with my overall #trans experience.
I started off with a full head of steam in a general queer server and got a lot of traction and made some noise. I then stood up for myself a little too loudly and was literally silenced/erased by a white cis dude cuz my protesting a shitty video game "would look bad" for him.
I saught refuge in a few specifically trans spaces and was kinda weirded out by a few until i found a nice corner of the internet to make dick jokes and farm memes.
I dont care about educating the cis. I dont care about traction and internet points. I care about being a resource to other #transgender people and being proof that you can, in fact, just be a girl if you want to.
@raphaelmorgan weird. Almost as if being in a position of power puts greater weight on your choices and exposes you to criticism when those choices are shitty.
Am I the only one who doesn’t understand why Al Franken had to resign for a joke photo he took years before he was a senator, but elected officials who participated in or encouraged an armed insurrection to overthrow our democracy are allowed to stay in government?
My brain: if you run electricity into a generator you get a motor, if you run electricity through a water turbine you get a waterpump, electricity through a windmill produces a fan, but electricity through a solar panel doesn't produce sunlight.
