One thing that is annoying about dev tools like Tiled or Aseprite is that they don't warning you if you open a read-only file. Version control uses this flag to say the file is locked. You accidentally open a locked file and make a bunch of changes, get a save warning, then unlock the file and it pulls down new changes and you overwrite them.

TTimo,
@TTimo@mastodon.social avatar

@grumpygamer @glyph auto-reload discarding your local changes would be a bug in the application really? A VCS would be a likely trigger, but this happens if you directly edit stuff over Dropbox for instance.

@eniko time to switch over to the same lore stuff, but for LOTR?

Anyone out there drive an Ioniq 5? I’m looking at it for my next car and need to gather opinions both good and bad. If you have thoughts you wanna share please let me know. Thx!

@gedeonm I'm starting to see a bunch of those around North Dallas. I'm less allergic to this than a Tesla but still .. Hyundai?

Kramer bursts into Jerry’s apartment, wearing an Apple Vision Pro headset. “Jerry, I’ve entered the next dimension!” he proclaims, narrowly missing the coffee table.

Jerry, skeptical. "Kramer, how much did that set you back?"

"Jerry, I found the perfect solution. I'm renting out my apartment on Airbnb to cover the cost!"

Jerry, eyebrows raised, sets down his coffee. "You're renting out your place? Where are you sleeping?"

"Oh baby, with spatial computing?! I’m never sleeping again Jerry!”

Ouch, so frustrating. Diagnosing and fixing github over https authentication problems is the worst. Typically after you clone a public repo and it'll never let you use your write access for push afterwards.

@a1ba depending where I'm working, ssh is blocked sometimes .. but yeah .. I think ssh is the way, their HTTP tokens stuff is hopeless.

Valve is seeing an increasing number of bug reports for issues caused by Canonical's repackaging of the Steam client through snap.

The best way to install Steam on Debian and derivative operating systems is to follow the instructions at http://repo.steampowered.com/steam/ and use the official .deb

We are not involved with the snap repackaging. It has a lot of issues.

If you don't want the .deb, please at least consider the flatpak version.

TTimo,
@TTimo@mastodon.social avatar

@SheepZone it's not officially supported either, but I hear it fares much better. Last time we looked at it there were concerns about performance overhead in some situations.

TTimo,
@TTimo@mastodon.social avatar

@cassidy we haven't revisited this in quite a while, but the performance overhead of the seccomp layer was a concern: https://github.com/flatpak/flatpak/issues/4187

I am trying to embed a feed of my Mastodon activity on a Wordpress site. I found a plugin and it seems ok but anyone have good recommendations of tools for this?

I removed the Twitter feed a while ago and want to include my toots instead. Thanks

It never will cease to amaze that there’s a maker of smartphones emphasizing privacy and pushing end-to-end encryption and features like device lockdown, running on an open source OS…

…and open source tech people keep dunking on Apple and dissing it and then turn around and praise Google, the shadiest advertising company in the world that would sell their grandmother for a quick profit (they probably do).

TTimo,
@TTimo@mastodon.social avatar

@thomasfuchs surely you don't mean iOS. It may have an open source lineage, and some bits are still open, but it can't be reasonably qualified as "open source".

tfw when you didn't decide on the CamelCase naming of a variable, and when you try to compile you have 2 or 3 variants of the spelling all over ..

Ouch - that's a new one for me, breakpoint conditionals with side effect .. e.g. appid = 3830 when I should have typed appid == 3830.

TTimo,
@TTimo@mastodon.social avatar

I was getting very confused.

TTimo,
@TTimo@mastodon.social avatar

@Cheeseness right! It's pretty vicious.

TTimo,
@TTimo@mastodon.social avatar

@Cheeseness I also found that the conditionals are not necessarily evaluated on the line where you set the breakpoint .. it's a debug build but does have some minimum levels of optimization enabled.

TTimo,
@TTimo@mastodon.social avatar

@Cheeseness no wonder we're all paranoid

Hot take: yes, google is evil but imo the whole thing about slowing down FireFox is so obvious and dumb that I can't assume it's malicious or intentional.
