Well, it's official. Our solar panel array on the new house is kind of nuts. On a good day at this time of year the old house produced 9-10kWh. The new one ... 64kWh. I'm looking forward to getting batteries installed to manage that energy, as well as to participate in the utility's virtual power plant system. Do you have solar? How much do you see on a good day this time of year?

With all the posts about I decided to take the plunge. Started by re-watching the original movie starring James Spader & Kurt Russell. I had forgotten a lot of it. The last 1/3 of the flick is forgettable but the entire world building/discovery is compelling.

The pilot of SG-1 picks up a year after the events of the film & so far I like it. Richard Dean Anderson as Russell’s character is interesting. He’s now the alpha male instead of the nerd (Macgyver), interesting role reversal

I don't see any commits on the main branch since March of 2020 (😬) but it is amazing that someone has put this much effort into a recreation that is both faithful (it has a literal hypercard stack importer) and modern (it doesn't visually look like a retrocomputing exercise).

This release should have significantly improved compatibility on modern systems.

The issues related to tcmalloc in particular are a thing of the past now.

This release has been very thoroughly tested .. on Windows!

The Linux build has had significantly fewer gameplay hours, so we'll be watching https://github.com/ValveSoftware/csgo-osx-linux closely (or maybe setup a fresh one).

could you make an interpreter that has two threads, one of which fetches and decodes instructions and the other which executes them?

probably wouldn't be a great savings in perf though 🤔

@eniko typically the fetch part is the most expensive, not much gains. That's why JIT solutions are preferred.

@Doomed_Daniel @linear the thing I'm seeing which requires a few restarts a week is that it'll stop rendering. I can open new tabs, switch between then but the actual web content window no longer changes .. still redraws though, but it's whatever page I was on when it wedged itself.
