It does feel like this sometimes 🤭

99.9% of jobs do not require urgency of any kind, really they don't. We've all had a boss who acts like someone will die if we don't hit some made up deadline by people who don't even do the job. No one needs their meal 1 minute faster or the paperwork before tomorrow morning. Your time off actually doesn't need to wait. Sometimes I think about how legitimately bad most businesses are at time management and hiring, and I wonder how they manage to exist at all.

Theorem_Poem,
@Theorem_Poem@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr yep. I never really fit into corporate culture because I could take " emergencies" seriously. My mum used to be the gynaecologist on call for the government hospital. I know what a real emergency looks like.

When I was at Swedish Radio News (Ekot) i invited climate scientist Kevin Anderson to come and address the journalists.

One of my colleagues, a smart person, said "but how do we get places like India to reduce their emissions?"

Kevin wrinkled his brow and said "you know, India has far lower per capita emissions. It's more like what could Sweden learn from them."

Looking at the results of elections in India and Mexico I think the west needs to realise we have a lot to learn in general.

Theorem_Poem,
@Theorem_Poem@mstdn.social avatar

@Loukas Also, the low emissions are due to the fact that roughly half the population is below the poverty line. There IS going to be increase in our emissions when we pull people out of poverty. Police India's 1% and the world's 1% for their excesses, not the starving for trying to exist.

Okay this ain't as bad as I feared.

What happens when toxicity in workplaces, educational institutions is the norm, or rather the cultural default and not exception

What happens if you live in a place where no matter where you apply you are bound to get bullies, scummy people

(indian job market and workplace culture feels like that)

Ever feel like so much of our lives is just spent around mitigating assholes around us?

Whoever has managed to find a workplace with kind people has hit jackpot in life

Theorem_Poem,
@Theorem_Poem@mstdn.social avatar

@impactology Yeah, because bullying is normalized. Parents and teachers bully and berate children - it's supposed to "toughen them up" for the "real world". The "real world" looks like that because if you've been controlled and abused your whole life, you'll misuse power the instant you are given one scrap of it. The cycle continues.

How much alone time vs socializing do you need?

For me there are a few people who are usually equalizing, and I can just be around them, so I won't count that. But generally, I find about 3 times a week, I'm game for socializing. A day in between to rest is usually nice, but the larger the gathering or if we go somewhere particularly noisy or I'm meeting new people that involves more effort, and my social battery empties sooner. I'm very curious where everyone else falls on this!

Theorem_Poem,
@Theorem_Poem@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr ambivert , raised in an extroverted culture. My social batteries depend wildly on the quality of the company. Some people make me feel replenished, others I need to recover from.

If you're feeling a bit scatterbrained and misplacing things, don't beat up yourself about it. Remember, the US Military is missing six nuclear warheads.

Anniversary Update, hubs gave me this, and I'm crying:

This is a long list of reasons why hubs loves me and it won't all fit in this!

Man I'm hitting the sad girl hours again. I've tried to commit to the process and literally done my best and frankly, it isn't much. Feeling like a fail. I wish I could detach myself from the results and just keep putting in the work but some results would've been nice, y'know?

What is the thing(s) that attracts you to a person romantically or otherwise?

Theorem_Poem,
@Theorem_Poem@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr smart. Make me learn something new and I'll probably like that. ++ if done with enthusiastic curiosity, not a condescending tone. (-100 if it's a brag). Dimples are cute as heck. Also, secure in his masculinity - literally the first thing I noticed about my now- husband is that he let a friend tuck flowers in his hair.

I'm extremely sorry to be the one to tell you this, but I thought 'hurr hurr - you know you get pineapple on pizza - what if there was orange on pizza', and I'm afraid there are seriously people out there doing this already.
