Dear Microsoft,
Your whiny pre-boot full screen ad every couple of weeks is not endearing me to windows 11.
It is making me reconsider your entire OS.
If I didn’t need it for work I would be attempting to overcome my fear of Linux and ridding myself of your racketeering nonsense.
Get fucked.

Can I reach the / community? I need some advice.

My mum has been really hard of hearing for years now. She has some fancy hearing aids but refuses to wear them.

It’s going to take a LOT of persuading and in the mean time she can’t hear her mobile phone or the door bell.

She got herself a Ring doorbell and chime but it doesn’t go loud enough.

Any suggestions or advice much appreciated. Boosts welcome.

I’ve gone and somehow removed mum’s home screen from her phone because she was complaining about some Samsung notifications.
So now her screen looks like this…

I just made a phone call.
It was regarding something relatively straightforward and simple to sort out and I was on the phone for 37 minutes. Most of that was on hold.

As soon as it ended I burst into tears.
I am exhausted. My neck and back are agony from the tension. I’ve got a headache and I feel sick.
It took about 30 minutes to stop shaking.

I wrote my speech but they interrupted, trying to get me to do security questions first.

But I did it… yay?

“Give them my love”

My mum says this a fair bit.

I think it’s an older generation thing to say when you’re not close enough with the intended target of the love but you’re talking to someone who is.
But I’ve never been sure what the goal is.

“This person who you are aware of but don’t know well / doesn’t feel comfortable contacting you right now (ie you’re in hospital)
wants you to know they’re thinking of you” is the closest I can fathom.

I get really irritated when I subscribed for a certain type of content on YouTube and that channel decides to do something else.

For example, one of my subscriptions who did very chill videos about driving round London is now only posting football matches.

Another did nice videos about travelling round UK canals on a boat for years then suddenly sold it and now does videos about their house in Scotland.

I have spent a very happy few hours back in the world of Aloy.

I’ve been waiting a long while for this to come to PC and so far it’s definitely worth it. It is stunningly pretty.

I don’t want to go to bed or do work tomorrow.

I am trying to reignite my passion for reading and I’m trying to ease myself into it as I’ve not read seriously for many years.

I’ve started with some Pratchett and I want to continue with a sort of YA theme to try and remember how much I enjoyed reading as a teenager.

Can anyone recommend some interesting, easy to read books?

Funny and fantasy or sci fi are bonuses but not mandatory.
Not looking for romance or anything that’s going to make me cry.

Finally went through Dad’s old family bibles I found in their garage.
These things are huge.

Anyone interested in seeing the things I found pressed between the pages?

Wow. If you have an iCloud account without any Apple devices, be sure to NEVER forget the password for it.

We set my mum up with one so she could use our old Apple TV. For whatever reason, I couldn’t find the password for it when I was resetting the tv over the weekend so I went to iforgot to recover it.

I gave every bit of information they asked for, including 2 step verification from her email address. Then got told to wait 24 hours for an email.
She forwarded it today.

Struggled with this week’s because I rarely leave home.

However, I did once live on a boat. It didn’t go anywhere but I think it still counts.

Why do all new kitchens look like spaceships these days? Everything is white, flat and featureless.
No hate if this is your kitchen and you love it.
I'm just pondering what happened to colour. And cupboard handles.

Last year I found this plastic Halloween skeletal rattie but then we moved house and the project had to pause.
I’ve finally got round to make my little Death of Rats a cowl.
Now he just needs a scythe and an hourglass. And better blue glowy eyes somehow.

I am currently game-less.
None of the games I’ve been waiting for will be released for at least 3 months and so I’m looking for recommendations please!

I’m looking for PC only.
I have game pass plus most other launchers/libraries.

Some franchises/games I’ve enjoyed: Fallout, Hellblade, SOMA, Bioshock, God of War, Quern, Talos Principle, Portal, Horizon, Edith Finch, Spiritfarer, To the Moon, Witcher 3, Assassins Creed.

As games get more and more pricey I really wish free demos were still a thing.

There are games I’d love to try but I’m hesitant for one reason or another and I can’t shell out £50-70 to find out it’s not my thing.

is one. I don’t think I’d like the top down party aspect of it but I’ve seen so many glowing reviews, I’d love to find out I’m wrong.

Generally I wait a few years and maybe grab things in the sales. I just wish that wasn’t the only option.

Having been at this company 6 months, they’ve finally allocated me my own Zoom account.

Except they asked me to set it up, create a password then send it to them so they have access ”just in case”.

Less than 6 working hours later, they’re pestering me as to why I haven’t done it yet.

I don’t know Matthew, you’re the one employed to do this shit. Why am I doing your admin in my spare time? Why not just “here’s your new account, the password is ******”?

Getting showered and dressed is slow and painful today. Stoopid spine.

However, I have just ordered an hourglass for my Death of Rats (thanks to @Tattooed_mummy) and I get to wear my new watch strap.

Also, it is inexplicably currently NOT raining.

Onwards and (carefully) upwards.
