I am totally floored by the bold, drunk on LLM idea that Slack by Saleforce has right now: They want to compromise the privacy of customer data to train their implementation of an LLM.

This is beyond cursed because Salesforce has the audacity to make this scheme an opt-out instead of op-in to maximize the data accumulation.

I hope the uproar this will generate makes Slack step the hell back!

Gotta resist watching the new Assassin’s Creed trailer.

Ubisoft is way too good at pulling me in with good premises and cool cinematic trailers. I’ll wait for the gameplay trailers and damn it, I am going to do all I can to not get suckered in. Ubisoft and Bethesda are damn good at baiting me. 🙃

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@tashen Those cinematic trailers can be so damn tempting, but after years of seeing the trailer and having the game in my possession...I've been inoculated enough to resist being tempted. The live gameplay often never lives up to manufactured hype.

I'm going to be highly skeptical of anything Ubisoft puts out there; reviews are the only thing which will sway me these days. Or first-hand experience with demos or early access titles.

Picked this up from Amazon cheap, I remember wanting to play it when it came out, but promptly forgot all about it. Was reminded the other day when the news came out about the studio closing. Feel kinda sad

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@COMPU73E That's a shame! I remember this game is decent (has some glitches and other tech issues) however that didn't stop me from rolling credits after about 30 hrs. Tango Gameworks being closed was the worst decision they made with those studio closures, aside from Arkane Austin getting shuddered!

I couldn't be less interested in any future UBI games if I tried, they might as well go the whole way, fire all their developers and just let AI generate their games from a template

https://www.eurogamer.net/ubisoft-focusing-on-open-world-and-live-service-games-continues-to-invest-in-generative-ai

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@COMPU73E Ugh, this is unsurprising but also disappointing! LLMs can't replace people as those things literally need to be fed the works of others to produce something semi-sane. Without writers and creatives making stuff, LLM data will become stale and rot...Just like Ubisoft has.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@COMPU73E It did look fine to me as well, but it’s a rare stroke of genius for a company like Ubisoft.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds, (edited )
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@COMPU73E Exactly, I wasn’t fooled for a second because it was just a random chance thing for them. Jedi Fallen Order had been in a similar situation, it was just a public image bandaid which could easily be ripped off. As a company, EA were never changing because profits and dark pattern tactics are in the game!

@COMPU73E I've taken to checking gaming sites. For the most part those major sites end up catching a lot of news related to new game announcements without the twenty pounds of filth heaped on top.

I'm so glad that I deleted my Twitter account, as I know that it would hurt my mental health in the future due to Space Karen being the worst. 🙃

Listen, Mastodon, I don't mean to get political, but I cut a lot of my sandwiches in squares, and I just feel like that's better over a triangle.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@Dennis5891 ROFL Personally, I cut my sandwiches based on my mood! Sometimes it's diagonal, in straight halves...Or like a heathen, uncut because I'm hungry!

I've worked at two different recycling facilities. The US is #1 at paper recycling. However, my point is that you can't recycle plastic. You can't. If someone says so, they're talking bullshit. Coca Cola might be able to do it if they're only using their plastic in house, but you can't do it nationally or globally because the chemical composition of plastic is different based on the use and manufacturer. It's all bullshit...

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@wendigo Exactly, it would require a level of standardization which would be such a challenge in the plastic space! Herding cats would be something easier to accomplish than making every company completely standardize the plastic making process so it's universally recyclable.

I wish we could get away from plastic usage completely, as it's wreaking havoc already. Many generations of people will suffer due to the microplastics unleashed in the world and building up in living things.

Lots of dumpster divers at the Winn Dixie. I see them every day because I'm up very early. I'm fine with homeless people. It's gross, but you have to get by somehow. What I'm not fine with are the douches in their retro-rides and nice clothes showing up to grab a free ham because they're too cheap to buy it, and they always see me and offer excuses. Fuck them. What should happen is that Winn Dixie should be donating their "waste" / food to homeless shelters and off-market stores...

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@wendigo Food that is still edible (but can't be sold) does need to be distributed better as it would go a long way to making lives for the homeless or low-income households less difficult! America has a real issue with generating food waste which doesn't help anyone. Nobody should have to dig in a dumpster for their next meal. 😬

We have a Flint Hills Bread Basket around here and for the most part donations are handled well. However, more places need to be incentivized to participate!

My work is making me do an official ADA (disability accommodation) to work from home. They really don’t want me to work from home, even temporarily. Sent the paperwork to my urologist to fill out so we will see how it goes.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@Melezioh They are basically handing you the path to being free from the in office bullshit (which they arbitrarily decided would become fetch to begin with). I hope your urologist comes through by filling out the paperwork! Legally protected work from home would be a huge win. 😁

I shouldn't snicker at diets and diet fads but I can't help but have a little chuckle at this.

'A new study has debunked the general meal plan behind the Paleo diet, with findings suggesting that some Stone Age people ate a mostly vegan diet.'

https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/study-paleo-diet-stone-age-b2538096.html?utm_source=reddit.com

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@Strider Exactly, figuring out the balance of great for your health vs foods that make your brain happy is critical! Any thoughtlessly constructed fad diet can easily be snickered at because at the end of the day; science will point out the farcical nature of a fad!

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@Strider If that makes your heart happy, probably a better choice to eat more fruit vs snickers would be helpful. Imposing such a limitation can be counter productive, it makes you crave the thing you wish to avoid. Sugar is a necessary thing as the brain uses so much of it. Excess is bad, but balance is a wonderful thing!

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@Strider Sometimes that doesn't come through with written text; honey is pretty good for tea and coffee! I like orange flower honey as the hint of citrus flavor gives those hot beverages a zing. However, I also use turbanado sugar too. I find that I need less of it than refined white sugar overall to sweeten my coffee or tea!

My excitement for Crow Country has both increased and decreased after reading James Stephanie Sterling's review on the game! It's a shame that the traps feel like a slap to the face cheap, especially when combat with Guests is balanced well.

https://www.thejimquisition.com/post/crow-country-park-of-darkness-review

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@DesRoin Most demos wouldn't overwhelm the player with many mechanics, as it's suppose to be playable. Traps are a later on mechanic which are random and can cause so much damage; James mentions that there are traps that are hard to expect or even look for.

Traps cause too much damage vs Guests, making them a poorly implemented feature. Still the game embraces more of the good vs bad from classic horror games. They rated the game highly despite traps being a pain point.

ROFL It’s ironic that I write more during downtime at work than at home! It’s going to carry over into after my shift as I have a fairly strong hold on what I want to take place. It’s a calm before a storm, I love writing scenes that follow a big event! Aftermaths tend to get quite interesting, so many directions to follow.

This sounds like an interesting game! I love a good horror game, Supermassive Games tends to be a great studio which makes buy worthy games. I’m sold on the multiplayer release too. I’ll be checking out reviews to see if this is a winner or a stinker!

Graphical installers are cool I guess, but have you ever guided someone new to through an Arch installation remotely, by SSHing into their installation medium and watching them go through the setup in a shared screen session :cat_sip:

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@mezz I would’ve been terrified but I’m glad it went well for both of you! I prefer graphical installers above all else, using Manjaro would be my personal choice if I risked installing Arch.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@mezz I heard mixed things in general about Manjaro, but it seemed to be aesthetically pleasing to me! I’ve never used Arch itself so my personal knowledge is fuzzy, I default to either openSUSE or Ubuntu for Linux.

A smart move, having a training session before the big install! I couldn’t imagine going in blind without any practical experience either. 🤔

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@mezz I tend to pick the installer with the desktop environment of choice! I do know that Arch is super flexible and can be build from the ground up if a user is skilled enough. It’s why a lot of capable Linux users embrace it.

EndeavorOS is something I will casually look into, if Microsoft does something beyond the pale enough to abandon it again. I’d still probably choose Ubuntu in the end. 😁

Did a boss fight in Nier Automata last night, and right after it finished I had to watch it again on YouTube because the boss was saying stuff about the plot all while the fight was happening and I couldn't pay attention to what he was saying because I was too busy trying to not get killed

This is honestly one of the weirdest most inconsistent games I ever played. Some bits of it are genuinely 10/10 and then other bits are like they let the intern loose on their first day

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@COMPU73E Oofta, I dislike boss fights that drop lore for this reason! Thankfully, I was able to multitask and absorb the plot and stay alive. I would’ve preferred that the dialogue would only happen before or after. As there are people who can’t multitask, it would make it easier for them to limit dialogue during fights.

Playing Nier Automata while waiting upon the release of another …It’s a beautiful and frustrating experience thus far. I can overcome some of the challenges it presents, so I go into focus mode upon being challenged. If you ever come across my body, “A cursed child got killed at a blood-soaked battlefield.” is the death message you’d encounter. Surprisingly, I only die in encounters with multiple phases. In normal combat or boss fights…I survive!

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@ayysturg "Weight of the World" is a banger song, I remember listening to it before actually rolling credits in Nier Automata! The songs are perfectly in sync with Nier Automata's themes...

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@ayysturg Same, the opening sequence was rough but worth it in the long term! The language mixing is surreal and tickles my neurons, but once again its thematically on point for Nier Automata.

Transistor is one of those games which the music and the narrative are so closely linked in a masterwork way.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@ayysturg The best songs are the ones which make you contemplate existing in a space you aren't accustomed to! That gets you into a space most unordinary, if I had something that played CDs I would consider getting a physical copy.

Do investigate Transistor, it's a fun game! The way story and lore is unveiled to the player feels rather good to me.
