It's still happening. These old men riffing on some story of a child being sexually abused by a teacher and because the child is male and a teen they turn it into a joke "hur hur I would have loved that at age 16"

Then everyone wonders why there is a shame hurdle for boys who might need to report such abuse.

It's disgusting.

As a teacher this kind of thing makes me really angry.

is about to pay a record European Union fine for transferring user data from EU servers over to servers in the US.

How big will the fine be? Significantly bigger than the fine that Amazon paid for privacy violations, which was for 746 million euros ($821.20 million).

But I don't think a fine is good enough. Surely if will be banned for "theoretically" transferring data to Chinese servers, Meta should be banned for doing the same thing.

And frankly, when comes to the Fediverse, we should all be leery about how Meta handles data. Frankly, I don't trust them.

    I see people telling us that we shouldn’t be negative about Bluesky, that we should give it a chance and see what happens. But how else are we supposed to judge the trustworthiness of a new system than by our past experiences with the people involved? And frankly, the Twitter experience was absolutely miserable. I simply don’t trust Jack Dorsey or anyone who works with him, with good reason.
