If you've lost a pet in the Valley View storm, All American Dogs Shelter has been out to the area and has picked up several pets.
They will be diligently searching for and picking up loose/stray animals and taking them back to the shelter in Pilot Point.
Please contact the shelter or (better) go out there and see if your furry family member has been captured and is waiting for you.
If you haven't had a chance to do so yet, and your pet is microchipped, please contact your microchip company to be sure the contact info is up to date.

@MiBaWi Wow, give it to Texas to privatize and turn animal control into a for-profit business 😬 Reviews on Google do not give me faith in their system there, apparently they are authorized to write out expensive dog tickets on behalf of local cities.

The police had to call for them to come help me and the police were nicer and more compassionate. If | could give zero stars | would. Best to go on Facebook and contact smaller shelters or rescue teams. This place is a nightmare and based on other reviews, it seems like they abuse the animals too.

@MiBaWi Aha! Checked out the Facebook page, and apparently they need bags that people can fill with supplies, which do not shred... Apparently that part of Texas is plagued with "VERY CHEAP PLASTIC BAG" syndrome, i.e. the lightest, cheapest bags which shred on contact... The alternative, of course, would be beefier shopping bags (recycled polypropylene bags, etc. like you see in California).

All ramps of the six-storey parking garage at the St. Antonius Hospital in , collapsed on Sunday evening.

It's currently being assessed whether it is safe for emergency services to enter the building.
It is not yet known whether there are any victims.

@n1vux @MsMerope Yep, they're still taking #5 here! They don't like black plastic, however, which is fairly necessary for the hydroponics experiments i have in back (to block light). That said, I think I'm just adding to the landfill with those, as I have been painting them to prevent plastic breakdown... (hydroponics is not very sustainable, although it is highly efficient and effective for growing... :-(

Hmm, when did California lose it and start using plastic bags again at grocery stores? The pandemic? For awhile there I thought everyone was using (at the very least) beefier recycled plastic bags instead of throwaway plastic, but apparently someone lobbied someone so people are just buying more disposable plastic bags (at 10 cents a shot) in my neighborhood. 😢

(Nope... I do not go to the grocery store much, LOL).

@miah That still happens here... although styrofoam is supposed to be banned, but I suppose that there is also an underground supply of styrofoam from surrounding states.

@meganL Found the article... Man, apparently I was NOT wrong, for awhile there were no plastic bags because LDPE was banned... but they skirted the law and moved to thicker bags (which make grocery stores a small profit). 😡

AHA! Article from the LA Times... from August of 2023. Apparently there was a law (Senate Bill 270) passed which outlawed LDPE bags... but they moved on to HDPE (thicker) bags to bypass the law!!!
