I spent the past few weeks modding my iPad Pro.

It started with a matte screen protector. And then came a magnetic mount for my iPhone. And then...magnetically-mounted stereo speakers.

@viticci what you mentioned in the footnotes DOES work, but the weight distribution on the Magic Keyboard with iPad Pro was awkward in my lap (entire setup not pictured because it’s in my car and it’s literally frozen…I ended up using a MacBook with an 11in and added iPad mini on the other side). Using a MacBook also reduces staring in public.

My life would drastically change if Sidecar worked on iOS. Get your international @connected boys to bother someone enough to get that done.

@Sevoris @danilo that speaks even more to the lack of imagination. Phillip K. Dick didn’t feel the need to show why maybe manipulating a consciousness into being and dooming them to paranoid and violence might be a bad thing especially because of the dystopian backdrop.

There are more and more stories that ARE far more on the nose, like Ex Machina, where the billionaire weirdo is literally murdered and guys still stand up like “we have our own Eva!”

At this point LLMs are like sex. Seeing it everywhere without explicit consent of users makes me feel super gross like I'm supposed to be into something I don't want or need because it makes people feel special without thinking they need to earn any trust.

But then in extremely specific contexts, I'm like well this is just the bees knees. 🐝🦿

I often think about how after the phonograph was invented grifter seances went full throttle because our brains just weren't equipped to hear voices coming out of something other than another person.

I really hope we're going to reach the tipping point soon with AI where we can be like "this is amazing but not magic and maybe we should pay attention who has control over these things because we sure let that Edison guy get away with a lot"

The problem with the iPad lineup:

iPad Mini:
Only good for content consumption and a Kindle is a better, cheaper e-reader

iPad:
awkward middle child, uses the Bad Apple Pencil

iPad Air:
a solid all rounder, but if you’re going to spend that much money, don't you want the nice display?

iPad Pro 11”:
a great device, but a little on the small side for drawing or using multiple windows

iPad Pro 13”:
if I’m going to spend €2000 to get a computer with a keyboard, why not just buy a MacBook

Like I'm sure everyone does, I long for custom visionOS Environments. By the time that happens I'll need to figure out how to replicate the interior of a 1999 Chevy Suburban with the sounds of my brothers' Game Boys in the background so I can put Television by Sandwich in the center console where my grandpa made custom straps to wedge a mini one in between the front seats.

I got , an iMac G3 in Snow, on Christmas morning as a complete surprise. My dad had a PowerBook I adored, but the family computer was still a Gateway 2000.

Even though I’d used iMacs at school frequently I hadn’t been able to do a deep dive into OS X. My 5th grade computer teacher was still having us mostly run OS 9 in 2002!

When @robb posted his Mac with with the height of Instagram filterty, he reminded me of Christmas Eve 2010.

It was the first time my one of my Gradmas wasn’t able to see all her kids and grandkids over the holidays, but FaceTime was released a few months earlier (as was Instagram which is why my photo screams 2010).

At holidays we do pass around phones and iPads, but there’s still always an iMac in my parents’ kitchen with family members popping in and out. ♥️🖥️
