In the East Jerusalem neighbourhood of al-Issawiya, Israeli authorities reportedly forced a Palestinian to demolish his own home and displace his family of nine, claiming he lacked a permit to live there.

He was forced to carry out the demolition himself since Israeli authorities charge exorbitant fees if the municipality razes the structure.

#Lavender has learned to detect non-combatants as a threat, because its training data included the profiles of civil defense workers like firefighters and emergency responders.

The meaning of this decision is dramatic: it means you’re including many people with a civilian communication profile as potential targets.

And what happens in Palestine doesn’t stay in Palestine.

Israel is exporting its cyber technology to repressive regimes around the world. Israeli-made spyware has been found on the phones of human rights defenders, journalists and politicians in India, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Mexico, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic, and many other countries.

But and Where’s Daddy? are only two parts of a sprawling network of weaponized and repression that dominates Palestinian lives.

They use to hack into phones, maintain a web of cameras at military checkpoints and in Palestinian residential areas, and collect photos and other biometric data. The information they capture about Palestinians living under apartheid feeds the databases they use to train new genocidal technologies.

Where's Daddy

The IDF bombed them in homes without hesitation, as a first option. It’s much easier to bomb a family’s home. The system is built to look for them in these situations.

In the first month, more than half of the fatalities belonged to just 1,340 families, many of them wiped out entirely while inside their homes.

Palestinian girl, 11, tells of surviving two days under rubble

“We stayed under the rubble for two days without food or water. We expected to die under the rubble.”

“After they bombed our house, the tanks approached us. The soldiers started shooting over our house. The tank drove over the house rubble. We made a small hole in the wall and we barely got out. Soldiers laughed at us and told us to move forward, neither to the right or the left.”

The Israeli Knesset’s preliminary bill to designate UNRWA as a terrorist organisation is an outrageous attack on humanitarian assistance, and an act of collective punishment against the Palestinian people.

Israel’s allies, which are all members of the United Nations, must stand against this move to criminalise humanitarian assistance and ensure that can continue its essential work.

Artificial Negligence: The Book About AI for People Who Would Never Buy a Book About AI by James Wilson, 2022

Written in an accessible, balanced, light-hearted way, it is intended for those of you who wouldn't normally pick up a science or philosophy book. Using clear, and generally amusing, analogies and examples, it will ensure you can face the future with confidence and optimism.

Ten-year-old Lama was dressed and her bag packed to escape Gaza when Israel invaded Rafah and closed the only crossing out of the enclave.

The young girl had been dreaming of leaving after seven months of war to get desperately needed medical treatment.

She had been granted special permission by Israeli and Egyptian officials to leave the enclave through the Rafah crossing after her leg was shattered during an Israeli attack on her home earlier this year.

"Imagine living in a place where survival is a matter of luck only. You unluckily happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and you end up suffocating under the rubble of your house. Imagine having to dig out the body parts of your children, siblings, and parents from under the rubble. (...) My family members go to sleep every day fearful of suffocating to death under the rubble or being burnt alive like the recent massacres in Rafah."
