While the ruling by the International Court of Justice is a blow to Israel's international standing, the court does not have a police force to enforce its orders.

In another case on its docket, Russia has so far ignored a 2022 order by the court to halt its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Israel signaled it, too, would brush off an ICJ order to stop its operations.

I kind of wish anyone here knew anything about Burkina. It gets lonely. I made a Burkina Faso instance but nobody in my life wants to join 😂

@being There's a chapter on Burkina Faso cinema in this book.

Often referred to as Africa’s Hollywood–Burkina Faso, ranked by the UN as the third poorest country in the world (2005), is considered a kind of role model for sub-Saharan African cinema.

Israeli newspaper Haaretz reports that Defense Minister Gallant has announced he will expand the law to allow Israeli settlers, who were evicted during a 2005 disengagement plan, to return to settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Settlers are Israeli citizens who live illegally on private Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. The vast majority of the settlements have been built either entirely or partially on private Palestinian land.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich demanded “punitive measures” from Netanyahu, including establishing a settlement on the occupied West Bank “for every country that unilaterally recognizes a Palestinian state” and promoting the construction of tens of thousands of housing units.

"The Settlers", 2016

"The settlement enterprise is a bubble that exists outside the legal system, the border system, the social system of Israel.

"400,000 settlers are living in the midst of 2.8 million Palestinians living under a separate set of laws, deprived of basic human rights within this territory with an economic status about one-twentieth of that of the settlers that live near them."

The vanity of life | Wadi Rum desert,

Photographer Mihail Minkov: ‘The concept behind this shot is to highlight the stark contrast between the vastness of the cosmos and the minuscule nature of humanity. The composition intentionally draws the viewer’s focus to a small figure, underscoring our insignificance in the grand scheme of the universe, while the majestic Milky Way core dominates the background.

Pro-Israel billionaires urged New York crackdown on Gaza protests

A handful of powerful businessmen pushed New York City Mayor Eric Adams to use police to crack down on pro-Palestinian student protesters at Columbia University, donating to the politician and offering to pay for private investigators to help break up the demonstrations, the Washington Post has reported, based on leaked WhatsApp conversations.

If you read nothing more on Israel's genocide... read this:

"Israel’s Willing Executioners"

"Hundreds of thousands of people are being forced to flee, once again, after more than half of Gaza's population took sanctuary in the border town of Rafah. This is part of Israel's sadistic playbook.

"Run for your lives..from Rafah the way you ran from Gaza City..Jabalia..Deir al-Balah..Beit Hanoun..Bani Suheila..Khan Yunis. Run or we will kill you."

"Run for your lives. Again and again and again. Pack up the pathetic few belongings you have left. Blankets. A couple of pots. Some clothes. We don’t care how exhausted you are, how hungry you are, how terrified you are, how sick you are, how old, or how young you are. Run. Run. Run. And when you run in terror to one part of Gaza we will make you turn around and run to another. Trapped in a labyrinth of death. Back and forth."

Celts: The History and Legacy of One of the Oldest Cultures in Europe by Martin J. Dougherty, 2024

Before the Vikings, before the Anglo-Saxons, before the Roman Empire, the Celts dominated central and western Europe. Today we might think of the Celts only inhabiting parts of the far west of Europe – Ireland, Great Britain, France and Spain – but these were the extremities in which their culture lasted longest.
