Haha, remember that one time I was complaining about the enshittification of video games and saying how at least I'd always have tabletop games? 🙃

Like sure, Asmodee sucks ass and it couldn't happen to a nicer company, but I love being reminded that some rich assholes can completely fuck over the things I enjoy, and that I have absolutely 0 power to do anything about it.

You know, being reminded that nothing is safe.

Epic killing off Rock Band support so that you have to play it through Fortnite is absolutely what I would expect at this point, but holy crap am I still unhappy and frustrated about it all. :/

#GoodStart you say? Well hoo boy do I have a pick for this week's #VGMWednesday !

Megaman Zero 2's intro track "Departure" will likely forever be my go-time hype track, because I really don't find anything much more inspiring than a tired warrior wandering through the wilderness - fighting for what he believes in until his body literally gives out.

@s31bz I'm not 100% sure how I feel about revolt as an alternative. On one hand it's the closest in general style and feel, but on the other hand they seem to really want folks using the primary service (rather than self hosted) if possible - which is kind of how we got into this spot with Discord in the first place. 😕

That all said, probably still going to set up an instance myself since it really feels like Discord's been circling the drain lately.

Wednesday is also for , hosted by @miona , with the theme !

I always favor soundtracks that slowly build a sense of anxiety and uneasiness rather than assaults of fear.

Better if they have some epic tones.

This is from Hexen II game. I don't know how many people remember this game, but its soundtrack is quite effective.

@neurothing Oh man, always awesome seeing Hexen 2 get some love! The CD audio did such an amazing job of helping elevate what was already a hella atmospheric game. <3

I have been trying to play and I keep dying to every single mission after that first boss.

I bought on my switch and I feel like I may not be able to finish it either even tho I haven't started it...

How did I beat but not this? Give advice

@joel zero games in particular are known for being especially difficult. One thing that may help (if you haven’t already) would be grinding out weapon levels. (Typically by killing things with said weapons) once you can charge your saber, the game becomes a lot more manageable.

Back in grade school, I had the shareware for an overlooked FPS by the name of Rise of the Triad which I absolutely loved and played to death.

For whatever reason, it wasn't until the release of the Ludicrous Edition nearly 30 years later that I finally sat down and played through the full version.

Thanks Nightdive, for helping me close out a beloved and long overdue piece of my childhood. <3

@WagesOf News to me. Everything I've ever seen or read on the subject had RotT as being passed over and living in the shadow of the genre defining Doom which had released the prior year.

Further anecdote, but I've very rarely talked to anyone in person who had heard of the title, whereas everyone easily remembers Doom from around that timeframe.

Decided on a whim tonight to set up Owncast so that I could stream some early game Blasphemous to friends while we were sitting in voice chat.

I'm super impressed with how straightforward the experience was. The hosted site was easy for folks to access, and I'm told the stream quality was great as well.

This was a VERY welcome change from Discord refusing to screen share in Linux, and has me considering some more casual streaming in the future~

Today at work a younger coworker asked what I’ve been playing, and I replied how I’d been putting a lot of time into the new release of “Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition”.

He wasn’t familiar with it (unsurprising), so I started to explain it was an old DOS shooter I played a whole bunch growing up. He then proceeded to ask me what a DOS shooter was.

“You know. An fps running on DOS.”

    “What’s DOS?”

    🥲

I know this really shouldn't be AT ALL surprising given the company in question, but the blatant, unapologetic "oh wow go buy these models they're good competitively!" while the game's balance is COMPLETELY fucked is leaving a hell of a bad taste in my mouth.

The linked metawatch video essentially dropping "the meta is still settling, and a lot of people are still learning how to play the new edition" sure didn't help either. :/

Important bit from The Verge's article:

    > Speaking of rivalries, Microsoft may have also precluded the ROG Ally’s SteamOS possibilities: “our partner for this device is Microsoft, it’s primarily made as a Windows device, and it’s made only as a Windows device,” says Krohn.

So Microsoft did make a pact with Asus for this device.

@boilingsteam This is more than a bit frustrating, if only because I was really really hoping for better XBGP support on the Deck. 😐 Seems pretty unlikely if this is the direction MS is choosing to take.

    arcticEdge,
    @arcticEdge@dice.camp avatar

@boilingsteam Not sure what I expected. I suppose I was just feeling naive and unrealistically hopeful after they made that smol amount of effort to have Edge and XCloud play nice with the Deck. :/
